A boys' name to rival Huckleberry

A friend at work has a little boy called Huckleberry (known as Huck).

I LOVE it but obviously can't copy it, as it's SO unique.

Can anyone think of any 'similarly' out-there but cute/cool names for boys?? Ds2 is due in the summer and I am struggling with an awesome, strong, interesting, unique name for him.

Interested in names from nature, literature, don't mind surnames-as-forenames in some cases...just something that stands out a bit from the kings and saints...

I DONT like: the trend for old-man names, or boys' names that sound too soft/feminine (I would put things like Robin, Caspar into this camp).

Help! Any ideas! What's the most awesome boys name you've ever heard??

Bramwell makes me think of the teddy from Old Bear Smile

I know somebody who wanted to use Dandini, but wasn't brave enough.

Harrison and Reuben don't fit the OP's brief at all. I know about 6 Harrisons and 3 or 4 Reuben's

BitOutOfPractice · 31/03/2015 23:50

Fletcher makes me think of Porridge (the sit com)

"Norman Stanley Fletcher"

BitOfFun · 31/03/2015 23:54

BOOP, there's a Fletch in Wentworth. Ironically, he's a screw...

passthewineplz · 31/03/2015 23:59

Nature names:
Sage
Heath
Rowan
Birch

BitOutOfPractice · 01/04/2015 00:00

BOF is there?

And can I apologise unreservedly for that grocer's apostrophe in Reuben's down there Confused

BloodyAwfulPoet · 01/04/2015 00:01

I think my DS has a trendy "old-man" name Blush

I met a little boy the other day called Oren. I'd never heard it before and loved it so much I briefly considered having another baby Wink

BitOfFun · 01/04/2015 01:24

A good name really can do that to you...Grin

margaritasbythesea · 01/04/2015 08:31

Oren means orange in Welsh.

NancyRaygun · 01/04/2015 09:29

Ooo Clement - now there's a name.

How about Claude?

Some leftie options:

Evo - sounds nice with Keir
Noam

florascotia · 01/04/2015 10:23

I think 'Oren' mentioned above might have been Odhran or Oran - Irish/Scottish Gaelic. A follower of St Columba. Pron. approx = OAR-unn. Either that, or his parents were trying a 'yooneek' spelling ...

Don't wish to sound impolite, but Evo make me think of glue (brand name Evostick etc). Perhaps Ivo instead?

Agree that Clement is a good name.

IHeartKingThistle · 01/04/2015 10:42

Hmm..the 'Oren' I met had an Asian mum, not sure where she was from though.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 01/04/2015 10:47

I have nothing to add except:

Aw, I wanted Huckleberry for DS!! DH vetoed it. The swine.

Scattymere · 01/04/2015 10:57

Favs from some great lists:

Caspian
Orson
Huxley
Rex
Chester
Stanley
Rafferty
Conrad
Jude

Have only really read the first and last pages, but I love the suggestion of Atticus. A proper literary name fitting the brief nicely. And a counter-weight to all the girls being called Harper these days :)

lastlines · 01/04/2015 13:44

Yes, Atticus is a great name. Atti is nice as a nickname too. I wouldn't have dared, though.

I do think you have to be careful with names and give ones that allow introvert DC to sink into the background if they prefer. There's a dad in our local park who brays 'Clementine!' at his daughter all the time and I just wish he'd at least call her Clemmy or something that doesn't make everyone turn and stare.

BellMcEnd · 01/04/2015 13:58

Io (eye-o, not Lo!)
Lorcan
Orlando
Esian
Silas (I LOVE this and wanted it for DS3 but doesn't go with our surname at allSad)

PeppermintCrayon · 01/04/2015 14:05

Sorry not read 7 pages to see if already suggested but what about Sebastian

iklboo · 01/04/2015 19:33

Agamemnon

ChristmasEveSteve · 01/04/2015 21:21

Bede. Caesar. Kester. Lachlan.

Marcipex · 01/04/2015 21:33

Agamemnon, wow. Can't top that.
