Leighantyn!....

This is what Dsis wants to name her DD
Its a mishmash of Lee and Anton (important people to her who died).
I understand her reasoning, think it's sweet, but can't help that I think it's horrendous Confused
What do you think?

MissYamabuki · 01/03/2015 15:52

I thought it was an alternative spelling for Leontine (or Leontyne as in Leontyne Price the opera singer). I much prefer these spellings to the one in the OP, sorry!

Sophronia · 01/03/2015 16:03

Antonella Leigh or Antonella Lee would be much better. or Leandra (the feminine form of Leander)

TheCowThatLaughs · 01/03/2015 16:05

I really like Antonia Leigh
Leighantyn is very very odd indeed and doesn't sound nice

BaronessBomburst · 01/03/2015 16:08

It's a terrible thing to do to your daughter.
Just, no.

ProfessorProfessorson · 01/03/2015 16:10

Antonia Leigh is very lovely.

I knew a girl called Leighan once (she pronounced it Leegan).

Agree Leighantyn is a bit of a mish mash, but suppose the DC could just go by Leigh.

GingerLDN · 02/03/2015 14:48

Just had a look at that Yahoo thread, someone suggested Leighton. It's not amazing but you need to be a good auntie and not let her be called Leighantyn. Wink it's awful.

MonkeySeeMonkeyDooo · 02/03/2015 15:26

It's not honouring anyone, it's plain horrendous.

Nolim · 02/03/2015 15:31

I dont like it at all

IsadoraQuagmire · 02/03/2015 16:49

Antonia Leigh looks so pretty, I like it a lot! Definitely steer her towards that! Smile

charlyn · 02/03/2015 16:49

Its hideous sorry.
Why not just use Leanne and Antonia as middle names or failing that theres so many ways to use the names in a nicer way!

RocketInMyPocket · 02/03/2015 21:21

Trying manically to prevent this.
Have suggested Antonia Leigh, Leontine, Leighton and Leanne.
Fucking pray for me and of course DNiece

Leighton's a boy's name, isn't it? Still, better that than Leighantyn!! Antonia Leigh is infinitely better though.

SunshineAndShadows · 03/03/2015 20:03

Well done OP - maybe show you're DSis this thread? If she goes for the monstrosity that is Leighantyn - please at least try and get it spelled in some semblance of a normal way!

MrsWatts · 04/03/2015 23:14

Love Antonia Leigh

Leighantyn is horrendous.

emwithme · 04/03/2015 23:39

Random-person-on-street: Oh what a lovely baby girl! What's her name?
Rocket's DSis: Leighantyn
R-P-O-S: Bless you! Now what's baby's name?

1stBabyQuestions · 05/03/2015 08:43

I must admit I do feel sorry for your SIL. I lost my dad recently and when I found out I was pregnant with a little girl I wanted to find a way to honour him. The hormones and grief left me coming up with awful names, thankfully I found a reasonable way around it (I named her after my dad's mom) she is obviously striving to do something lovely but completely going the wrong way about it, I've been there!!!

I would suggest stop talking about it and she will hopefully change her mind soon.

Bluestocking · 05/03/2015 08:50

Is there another parent in the picture? What does s/he think of this suggestion?

LineRunner · 05/03/2015 08:58

But how does it honour anyone to fuck about with the spellings of their names and ruin a child's life with the resulting vile mash up?

SunnyBaudelaire · 05/03/2015 08:59

It is awful what is wrong with Leighanne? or Leanne?

Honeybear30 · 05/03/2015 09:05

PP's saying 'Leanne' is meh...

OP please stop this from happening! I've actually always liked my name. Encourage Leanne!!

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 05/03/2015 09:11

I think the name is vile, but worse, a sister starting a thread about it all. How nice you are.

RocketInMyPocket · 05/03/2015 11:48

Thurlow · 05/03/2015 11:59

Blimey.

DN has a name in the same sort of "um... how do you spell that?" category.

And I imagine our family's faces were the same as yours when told the name (in private, though, with much polite smiling to the future parents).

To be fair, you get used to it after a while, and most people shorten it to simpler name.

How are they pronouncing it - Lee-an-tin?

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 05/03/2015 12:09

Sorry, but I don't think I am the childish one here.

Overhearing the name being used or it being the prospective name of some random baby is one thing, but there feels something quite mean about this thread based on the fact that it is your sister you are mocking.

RocketInMyPocket · 05/03/2015 12:12

Yes, Thurlow Lee-AN-tin.
We've had that too, a lot of raised eyebrows, and ' that's, um, unusual 's
I was just reading that Yahoo answers, there was a suggestion to spell it phonetically as Liantin which, while I still personally don't like the name , think that's marginally better than Leighantyn.
