Boys names are impossible!

We have aaaaaages to decide, but I wanted some input early as I think DP and I are going to struggle to agree on boys names as we don't seem to like any!

Here are the constraints:

Nothing too....(the word that's banned here), e.g. Jayden/Kayden/Kai
I don't like Callum/Connor names
No surnames - Parker, Fletcher etc
Nothing overly biblical, e.g. Ezekiel
Preferably not top 50, so not Noah, Oliver, Jack
Can't end in a 'ree' sound. I love Henry but baby's surname will be Reed and I think the 'ree-ree' sound in the middle is odd
More than one syllable to work with surname
Nothing too Scottish/Welsh/Irish as we don't have connections there

To give you an idea of what I do like, my absolute favourite is Wilbur. I know it's been slated on here so many times before, but I love it. Have yet to convince DP though... We both like Edwin shortened to Ned, but I'm worried this is becoming too popular.

Are there any names that fit those criteria?

Joining this thread! Currently 29weeks and at an impasse with DH. We already have a Robin (5) and I want Toby but DH has vetoed!

He likes Scot?!

HettyB · 01/03/2015 12:00

I like Robin but that's another one that DP has vetoed here! Why are boys names so hard? We have two girls names we both love but are really struggling with boys!

What about Philip

HettyB · 01/03/2015 12:06

I think with the baby's surname we need something a little more unusual. To me Philip Reed and Peter Reed sound a bit...boring. Or like department stores!

I like the names themselves, but not with the surname.

I feel your pain Hetty.

DP and I are really struggling to find that perfect name. We have a few boy's names but none set us alight, if you know what I mean.

SimplySara · 01/03/2015 12:18

Working from the name Wilbur that you cited as a name you like, what about Willard? I think it has a beautiful sound to it especially with your last name.

TheCatAteMyTaxReturn · 01/03/2015 12:29

I was going to suggest Leon, but if Leonard is out

if in doubt, go Latinate

Marcus?

What about William if you like Wilbur but your DH doesn't?

I have a William and often call him Wilbur (and Wilberforce) for fun.

Following as I'm due next Friday and still have no boys names. Help.

RufusTheReindeer · 01/03/2015 12:54

Either THaddeus

Or TADdeaus

Both work well, prefer THaddeus. Could shorten to THaddy, THad or TAD

Clueing4looks · 01/03/2015 13:11

Albert (alby, Bertie).

TheTertiumSquid · 01/03/2015 13:42

Nicholas or Nicolas nn nico?

MyNameIsSuz · 01/03/2015 14:15

I think with Jonas either way would be fine, but I'd probably go with a hard j as that's now most people here would probably pronounce it, and the shorter Joe and Joey are nice.

Writerwannabe83 · 01/03/2015 15:51

Boys are so hard to name.

Me and DH found out we were having a boy at 16 weeks and we only decided upon a name at 38 weeks. My DH came up with the name and because I still couldn't think of anything else I thought, why not? The whole thing was stressing me out Grin

We have an Arron Smile

HettyB I'm with you on this one.... I'm having my first child, a boy, and have found choosing a boy's name exceptionally hard! I would like something classic and timeless, easy to spell, good NN potential but not overly popular. Near enough impossible! My favs are: Arthur, Edward, Reuben and Toby. Apparently all of these are now exceptionally popular!

akorda · 01/03/2015 19:21

Edwin is certainly not at all popular round here. There are a handful of Edwards (but not LOADS) and the great thing about the name is that there are a number of different shortenings. So if you went for Ned, there might well not be another in the class, even if there was an Eddie/Teddy or Ed.

Or what about Edgar?

What about Patrick? A lovely name with good nickname potential that is surprisingly little used.

Toby is crazily popular round here, but Timothy is virtually unheard of
Lots of Leos but very few Leons
My point here is that sometimes you don't have to do much with a name you like to make it into a more unusual variant.

BreeVDKamp · 01/03/2015 20:11

Oh PLEASE use Thaddeus!!! I looooooove it, but DH won't have it :( I say THAD-ee-us.

Im 29 weeks and we FINALLY got our boys name last week I think :) boys are so hard, there seems to be so much less choice. Our girls shortlist has 20 names on it.

I like Hector and Magnus too

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 02/03/2015 13:01

I'm having a boy in August and we've decided on Felix (always one of my favourite names, and dh loves it too, to my total surprise!). We were also looking for 2+ syllable names, ideally in the top 100 (as reassurance that we weren't going mad) but not in the top 50, mostly English etc., so here's the rest of our short list, in case it helps:

Alfred
Angus (Gus)
Charles
Edward (Teddy)
Fergus
Jeremy
Julian
Laurence
Leo
Marcus
Milo
Theodore (Theo/Teddy)
Wilfred
William

Rosieliveson · 02/03/2015 13:12

Boys names do seem more difficult to come up with! I love Milo, Nathan (Nate) and Niles.
