Is Eve very popular?

I know Ava is very high up in popularity, but is Eve? And what could it be short for apart from Evelyn?

I only know one Eve, compared to 3 Ava's. Could also be short for Genevieve.
Evelyn is really pretty though...

KERALA1 · 15/02/2015 14:44

Most girls I know are called eve. Definitely avoid if popularity bothers you! Its this generations sarah.

bluewisteria · 15/02/2015 14:48

I love Guinevere, so I suppose it could be short for that?

I haven't met that many here but knew 2 in London, but they must now be 5 years old, so I wasn't sure if it was still used a lot, ie if there is likely to be another in her small village class!

I know quite a few Eves. Eva and Evie are more popular, but so similar that they all seem to blur into one.

bluewisteria · 15/02/2015 15:07

Yes, I think if Evie/Eva are that popular then that would turn me off it. I don't want her to be known by her surname!

I have a friend with a 2 year old eve. She is constantly called Eva or Evie by others, much to the mums annoyance!

KERALA1 · 15/02/2015 18:40

At one point one third of the girls in DDs class were named a variant of Eve. Was incredibly confusing "Eve was away today so I played with Eve, but then the other Eve felt sad but never mind I went to play with blonde Eve"aaargh don't do it not another Eve!

bluewisteria · 15/02/2015 18:47

Oh blimey, ok, Eve is off the list!

DD is 8 but I occasionally help out at the local newborn baby group. Still the Eves keep coming! When will it stop?! Perfectly decent name but popular out of all proportion - we are in the south west.

CleverPlansAndSecretTricks · 15/02/2015 18:55

I always forget whether the child is called Eve, Eva, Ava, Evie, Elsie or Elise and then spend every baby group stressing that I can't remember her name!

How about Imogen?

TwentiethCenturyGirl · 15/02/2015 18:58

I don't know any little girls called Eve but know four little Eva's - all under the age of six (NW England).

bluewisteria · 15/02/2015 19:04

How funny, we have just moved to the South West.

Imogen I like, it just isn't 'us'. Both my husband and I have pretty different views of suitable names shall we say.

gotothegymtomorrow · 15/02/2015 19:08

I don't know one single eve! I know 2 avas and one evie. I know 3 imogens! Nw England. Wonder if there are more eves in the south?

bexibean · 15/02/2015 20:25

I know
Eve x 3
Evie x 4
Evie-Rose x1
Eva x 2
Ava x 2

V bland in my opinion - though Eve is the best of the bunch

bluewisteria · 15/02/2015 20:51

Crikey.

I used to love the name Eve, it's got a beautiful simplicity. But yes there are a lot of them about these days so it's lost a bit of its sheen.

Could be short for Evangeline or Evadne if you're looking for a longer name.

reddaisy · 15/02/2015 21:04

Lovely name but very, very popular. How about Chloe? Lovely name that my teen DSD has a lot of friends called but none in my DD's primary.

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 15/02/2015 21:11

I went to school with a girl who used Eve as a short version of Yvette.

I have a 10 year old Evelyn, who likes to be called Evie. There are no other girls in her school with either name (although there is an Ava a couple of years below her).

tassisssss · 15/02/2015 21:13

Here in Central Scotland I know lots of little Evas and Avas (too confusing) but no wee Eves and as far as I know there are only 2 in my kids primary school and none I can think of in the High School I teach in.

I like it.

Could be short for Genevieve?

Sophronia · 15/02/2015 22:11

I'm in the South West but I don't know any Eves. Know a few Evies and Avas though.

rockinrobintweet · 15/02/2015 22:56

Im south west and know many many Eve's, Ava's, Evie's and Elsie's. for me it's very common.

how about Tia? Eliza? Mary? Flo? (Florence) if you like shorter names.

Pandora37 · 16/02/2015 15:47

I don't know any Eves but loads of Avas, Evas and Evies. I think Eve is definitely the least popular of the bunch but as someone else said, they do all blur into one. Which is a shame as Eve is one of my favourite names.

CatsClaus · 16/02/2015 15:54

I named dd Eve, having renounced my all time best girl's name ever for being too popular (Imogen) and then when she was about three I worked with someone called Eve (she was mids 20's then)....and that was it

now...they are everywere! Neighbour has an Ava, bro named a puppy Eva, sil just adopted an Evie, sil's sil has a baby Aoife... Every.Where.

i am such a trendsetter. 8)

Ems1812 · 16/02/2015 16:02

I know 4 Evie's & 1 Ava. I love the name Evie but could never use it now, it has become so popular.

Marcipex · 18/02/2015 11:39

I know loads of Eve, Eva, Evie, all now in infant school, not babies.
Many are actually Evelyn and two are Evangeline.
They all blur together a bit.
I think the peak must be over now.
