Amelia/Mila or Martha??

Hi everyone,
My husband and I have just found out that baby number 2 (EDD June 26th) is going to be a little girl and have made a shortlist of names that we like.
Just thought I'd see what others think as we aren't sharing our choices with family/friends and my hubby and I have different favourites (although we do both like both names).
So my favourite is Amelia (which we would eventually shorten to Mila) and hubs favourite is Martha.
I'd like Middle name Jayne (family tradition) but also like May, or Grace as a middle name. Our surname is McDonald and our little boy is called Rex William.
Any opinions (or other suggestions) greatly appreciated!!
Thanks in advance x

Martha and Rex don't go. Mila and Rex are great.

CarlaVeloso · 11/02/2015 19:31

I prefer Martha by a mile. There are a LOT of Amelias around.

I don't think Mila flows naturally as a nn for Amelia - more likely Milly.

Stop saying hubby and hubs - it's making me wince.

Pengyquin · 11/02/2015 19:33

Is Mila, 'Meela' or 'Myla'? (don't know how to pronounce it)

rockinrobintweet · 11/02/2015 19:34

i like Mila with Rex too!!

Mila Jayne is gorgeous!!

ShatterResistant · 11/02/2015 19:35

I know literally 8 baby Milas, from various countries. Martha is lovely.

Tisiphone · 11/02/2015 19:39

Martha. Around here, there are so many Amelias and Emilias you might as well call your daughter 'Female#20065'.

Nobody really says 'hubby', do they?

Becmac135 · 11/02/2015 19:40

Thanks for the name suggestions so far. We are very much in the ideas stage at the moment so just looking for external opinions.

I must say however, this is my first post on this site and I can't believe the 'attitude' that is coming across in a couple of these responses! Pretty shocked to be honest!! So what if I've shortened 'husband'- I'm posting on an Internet forum, not writing for an educational journal! I didn't ask for feedback on my writing style and am very much in the camp of "if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say it at all". Wow!!

Maybe research the tone of a forum before you post and don't like the responses, then complain, OP. And if you're sensitive, for the love of God, stay off AIBU.

Becmac135 · 11/02/2015 19:45

I love that there are so many in favour of mila (pronounced 'meela') This is one of our favourites.
I think Amelia came about when I was trying to find something to shorten to Mila (for some reason), but not keen on the name Milena/Milana, which I understand it originates from.

I don't feel I'm being sensitive, just didn't understand the relevance of the comments. For me, the 'sensitivity' is around being bothered by the use of the term 'hubby'!
Anyway, enough said on that thanks. I'm just here for the advice and have posted this on several forums to get as many responses as possible.

I like Mila. But Mila is prounounce 'my-la', not 'mee-la' as far as I know

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 11/02/2015 19:57

Martha, there are loads of Amelias already and I don't like Mila. I would assume it was pronounced My-la.

Becmac135 · 11/02/2015 20:04

Ah that's interesting re: pronunciation. I was thinking 'meela' links Mila Kunis, or Mila Kovovich.

Becmac135 · 11/02/2015 20:05

Oops Kovovich = Jovovich!

I also like
Mila Jayne and
Martha jayne

But usually can't see the point of not naming a child what you are planning to call them, unless it is a generational family name.

soontobemumofthree · 11/02/2015 20:15

Ps I would pronounce Mila my- la as this is how the only mila I know is pronounced

Laquila · 11/02/2015 20:18

I like Mila, and would assume it'd be pronounced Mee-la. Amelia is VERY popular now. Martha is lovely.

FWIW, I don't particularly like your use of hubs/hubby, OP, but I wouldn't have dreamt of commenting on it! Who cares?!

shipsinthenight · 11/02/2015 20:40

Another vote for Mila (pronounced Meela), also goes well with Rex.

reuset · 11/02/2015 20:49

Mila is interesting, though I prefer Martha

Sophronia · 11/02/2015 20:59

I prefer Martha, and I do think Rex and Martha go well together.

mathanxiety · 12/02/2015 01:22

I don't like either Amelia or Martha, but Mila Jayne is gorgeous, no matter how you pronounce it. Would go really well with your surname too imo.

Camilla might be a longer version, or Camille. But I think Mila is fine in its own right.
