Do you know anyone under 5 called Daphne?

Always loved the name and it's my first choice for a girl (will convince husband Grin )

I've never known anyone under 70 with the name but I worry it's becoming popular as I've seen it mentioned on baby name threads a few times!

I know two, both 18 months old. I think it's a lovely name.

NancyJones · 04/02/2015 13:48

No and I know a vast amount of children under 7. It's a lovely name though and was in the running when we named dd. However, it was a bit too close to one of her brother's name.
I think it's very cool and funky. I'd def go for it.

squoosh · 04/02/2015 13:55

Seems like it's still pretty niche. Probably pockets of them in the trendier parts of London I'd imagine.

Raeray · 04/02/2015 13:57

I used to look after a little girl called Daphne - I think she's probably around 11 or 12 now.
I think it's a lovely name - go for it!

squoosh · 04/02/2015 14:01

I can imagine a hipster couple with a little Daphne and a little Howard. The next step on from Alfie and Lily.

flowerygirl · 04/02/2015 14:14

Well I am very much a hipster Grin Grin

One thing that worries me is that I already have a DD with an 'ee' sounding name, plus our surname ends in an 'ee' sound. They will sound very sing song-y together!

I suspected as much OP Wink

Edie and Daphne is a little bit 'ee'ish but if I adored the name it wouldn't put me off.

Edie Kennedy and Daphne Kennedy sound fine too.

flowerygirl · 04/02/2015 14:27

Thanks, I'm thinking the same! My sis in law has an 'ee' name and the 'ee' surname and I've never thought anything of it.

Now we just need to agree on a boys name!

Yes, but only one. The only Daphne I've ever known, except from in Malory Towers. I like it.

Fatstacks · 04/02/2015 14:32

Possibly unhelpful but my cat is called Daphne she is 17 now and almost everyone who encounters her says it's such a pretty name.

For the whole 17 years so it has longevity too!

MishMooshAndMogwai · 04/02/2015 14:39

I know one aged around 2 now, her mothers a twat and I think it's an awful name but that may well be because of my low opinion of her mother.
Not a name Id ever consider tbh

cosmicglittergirl · 04/02/2015 14:45

I'm in a pocket of North London BTW.

LollyLondon · 04/02/2015 14:51

I don't know any, but it's a lovely name!

squoosh · 04/02/2015 14:56

I knew all the Daphnes would be in London!

I suppose there's a high chance that 15 years from now that it will be a Top 20 name. I know a teenage Ruby whose name was completely obscure when she was born whereas obviously these days it's got mainstream appeal.

GirlsWhoWearGlasses · 04/02/2015 17:45

I know a 5 yr old Daphne. Great name. I don't even live in London!

wesH · 04/02/2015 19:33

No, thank god. Horrible, frumpy name

JRoo · 04/02/2015 19:43

Yes - know one, in Kent

reuset · 04/02/2015 21:34

No. None.

Great name.

flowerygirl · 05/02/2015 09:59

That's interesting you find it frumpy wesH, I think it's the least frumpy name ever! Each to their own

It was actually someone telling me their cat's name was Daphne that reminded me how much I love the name Grin

I really like it :)

There's one in my ds's nursery group (she must be about 3) - I'm SE but not London. I also have an internet friend with a baby Daphne & one in the US with a 7yo (sister to Hazel).

jaykay34 · 05/02/2015 10:51

I know two - one is 3 years old, the other is ten months.

princessdave · 05/02/2015 11:41

I don't know any Daphne's of any age but it's a lovely name that was always hovering on my lists.

florascotia · 05/02/2015 22:20

I like Daphne and I don't think it would be too much together with a name ending in 'ee'. It's not really the same sound. Depends on your regional accent (if any), of course, but I'd pronounce Daphne as 'Daff-nay' or 'Daff-neh' not 'Daff-neeee'.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 05/02/2015 22:24

I know an 8yr old (I know that's not what you asked) she is fab and loves her name.

Willferrellisactuallykindahot · 05/02/2015 22:28

As no one else has said it I will assume in on my own here, but the name Daphne just reminds me of Des Clark's wife in old school Neighbours!

But actually thinking about it, it's actually quite a nice name Smile
