Help!

DC2 is due in 5 weeks and the girls name we had picked (for over 2.5yrs since DS born) has just been used by a new friend that lives opposite us!
The name which we can't use is Lydia, middle name will be Frances, and needs to go with DS name Timothy.
I hadn't even considered other girls names this time round as it was always going to be this name, please help with some suggestions!

Rachel. If we had twin girls they would have been Lydia and Rachel. They were both boys.

We also liked Samantha, Gabriella and Phoebe.

I'd just use Lydia - it's crazy to not use it just because a friend has. It's a beautiful name.

Nearasdammit · 03/02/2015 16:11

Tibia?
Labia?
Lochia?

Minisoksmakehardwork · 03/02/2015 16:18

I'd use it. What happens if you move and another child has the same name? You wouldn't change it then. Just make it clear this was always going to be your name of choice if anyone says 'oh like Lydia over the road?'

Deedeejanuary · 03/02/2015 16:36

I'm not sure if this has been suggested but I think
Dahlia
Is really pretty x

Wisteria1979 · 03/02/2015 16:47

Can you swap them around? Just put Frances first? Frances Lydia sounds nice together and works with Timothy.

Just use Lydia - I think you're more likely to regret using a name you like less than you would be if you used the name you love. My friend's daughter is best mates with the girl across the road and they love that they share the same name :) Just make it known that you'd decided on the name of a daughter before she was even conceived.

When I was pregnant with my dc2 I had a name and a neighbour told me "oh! I like that, classic but not the usual''. And I had my baby first and called him that name. She had her baby a month later and it was a boy and she called him the same unusual (for a baby) name. I was a bit surprised as I had thought my having used it would take it off her list. She wasn't trying to be rude but she made it fairly clear that I was so far off her radar and that I might move away or she and her family might move away that it didn't matter if her baby had the same name as mine. I was a bit Shock Shock at the time, to be told as good as 'oh but you're nobody to us' but I do get it now!

I love Lydia. Helena Frances or Olivia Frances sounds similar.

IWantDogger · 03/02/2015 19:47

Ok not sure if this is helpful but Lydia is on my short list along with;
Charlotte (Lottie)
Elizabeth (Libby)
Tessa
Sophie
Emma
Emily
Phoebe
Eliza
Florence
Imogen

Ok, maybe it's still quite a long list!

IWantDogger · 03/02/2015 19:48

And forgot Matilda (Tilly) and Miriam

Use Lydia. We have a Lydia and there is 1 around the corner (that i knew about when we chose the name) who is now in DD1s nursery class.

I think you should just use Lydia though. Or if you are not 100%, why not go and have a chat to the people who have used it, explain about the long-term attachment to you, and see what they think.

Pinkrosesarebest · 03/02/2015 21:16

I like Clara best to go with Timothy. Has a similar feel to Lydia.

Pinkrosesarebest · 03/02/2015 21:17

Actually how about Louisa...

anothernumberone · 03/02/2015 21:22

at Nearas

I am always nervous slagging off name choices in case some one has already used it but in your case I think you should stick to Jack and Sarah lol.

happy2bhomely · 03/02/2015 21:31

We've got a Lydia Frances! It's a beautiful name. It suits our DD perfectly. I wanted Frances as a first name but DH said no. I'm glad I listened.

snowydayz · 03/02/2015 21:55

You must use it if its the one you love!

Your sister/brother using it I can understand the hesitation...but certainly not a friend! My best friend's Mum still laments not using her all time favourite name, Elizabeth, for her daughter because the lady down the street used it. They haven't seen or heard from them in 30 years since they moved away!

speak2me · 03/02/2015 22:22

Nice to hear so many of you think we should stick with Lydia, and that this shouldn't be a problem!
I've come up with a list of names which we 'like' (Alice, Nadia, Nina, Verity, Tamsin) but none feels quite right (been assuming a DD would be Lydia Frances for too long!).
I'll let the new parents get to know their Lydia before I bring up that we have the same taste in names and that if we have a DD it will likely be a Lydia as this name had been picked pre-conception!

And after all that DC2 will probably be a boy!! Grin

Thank you!
