I really like it and think it is classic.

GingerLDN · 02/02/2015 10:35

I wouldn't have appreciated being called Dorothy. I'm all for old fashioned names but this isn't one of them.

DeanKoontz · 02/02/2015 10:37

Dorothy Perkins

DeanKoontz · 02/02/2015 10:37

There's no place like home...

TheWiseOldElf · 02/02/2015 10:40

I love it but I'm biased Smile

SoftSheen · 02/02/2015 10:41

How about Dorothea?

redredholly · 02/02/2015 10:43

I like Dorothea but it's a bit poncey. Isn't it?

I'm not sure if I like it but I love Dot as a nickname.

WomanScorned · 02/02/2015 10:54

Dorothy/Dotty/Dot/Doll/Do(e)/Dee
V. versatile. I love it :)

JakeyBurd · 02/02/2015 10:56

I quite like it, but I'm not keen on any of the short forms. Most of the ones I know use the full name, but two are known as Doll.

WomanScorned · 02/02/2015 10:57

Dora/Dory/Dorrie
Yep, I'm liking it more and more.
But, then, I LOVE the Wizard of Oz.

Artandco · 02/02/2015 10:58

I like it, but prefer Dorothea nn Thea

shoobidoo · 02/02/2015 11:45

I like it alot, both Dorothy and Dorothea - great classics. (Don't really like Dot though!)

BaronessBomburst · 02/02/2015 11:49

I love it. It means 'a gift'.

PTAblues · 02/02/2015 11:51

I know one and she hates it with a passion. It is really old fashioned in an Enid, Edith, Ethel sort of way. None of which are particularly attractive names.

rachel234 · 02/02/2015 12:07

Dorothy is lovely, as is Dorothea, which I prefer slightly. What's wrong with old fashioned? I find it refreshing and a nice change from all the fashionable names in the top 10.

Trinpy · 02/02/2015 12:12

Dot Cotton.

No, it's awful.

rachel234 · 02/02/2015 12:17

But you wouldn't have to shorten to Dot, would you? Dorothy is said easily enough or you could shorten to Dorrie? Dorothea could be Thea for short?

IsadoraQuagmire · 02/02/2015 12:36

It's gorgeous. I like Dolly for short.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 02/02/2015 12:38

It means a gift from God, I think. I like it very much. I marginally prefer Dorothea but I wonder how many people would pronounce or spell that right.

ajandjjmum · 02/02/2015 12:48

My Mum is Doris - nn Dot, although in later years she's been known as Dottie.

80 + years on, she still hasn't forgiven her mother!

poppydaisy · 02/02/2015 14:09

Like Dorothy!

Tisiphone · 02/02/2015 14:24

I find it a bit heffalumpish, but Dorothea is lovely.

NaughtyDoggie · 02/02/2015 18:39

I know a Dorothy and she's known as Dots. It really suits her and once it's attached to a little person I don't think it matters, as they make the name iyswim

Kilicat · 02/02/2015 19:24

I love Dorothy and Dorothea but not convinced I'd use it as a bit old fashioned. Have you thought about flipping the words over to Theodora? Still a classic name but maybe a slightly more modern alternative with all the same potential for nicknames that others have suggested.
