I like Pearl, Betsy and Maggie, the others are names I hear quite a lot ( Daisy and Grace seem quite popular ).

vestandknickers · 20/01/2015 18:13

I like all your other choices, but Pearl sounds like an old lady with a liking for mothballs to me. Sorry!

wesH · 20/01/2015 18:14

Pearl isn't a name I personally love, but I think it's a respectable name, not too 'out there' but you know not every other kid in the class is going to be called it. Grace is a nice, timeless name that ages well with the person - unlike Layla, which is very much a 'little girl'/'old lady' name. Daisy is ok

MsRyanGosling · 20/01/2015 18:14

I also like Beatrice and DP like Flo but not Florrie or Foorence.

What if she becomes an Aunt. AF is coming to visit! Grin

Pearl is a beautiful name, both for a little girl and for a grown woman. Strong and solid, yet feminine. Plus the fact it will be her birthstone is a neat little twist.

NancyRaygun · 20/01/2015 18:17

Love love love the name Pearl!

DealForTheKids · 20/01/2015 18:18

Ooh I have cousins called Beatrice and Florence!

So as not to put myself, I won't post their full names, but here are some further suggestions...

Phoebe
Ruth
Juliet
Anna
Verity
Alice

Wink

I like Pearl, never considered it myself but I would definitely thumbs up.

Grace and Daisy are quite done - I like Daisy personally but think it a bit overused

Betsy is just v boarding school for me! Slightly Enid Blyton book. Quite like Maggie.

vitaminC · 20/01/2015 18:26

I like all your suggestions. In fact, your DP and your tastes are not that far appart - Pearl and Daisy are both nicknames/diminutives/related to Margaret/Marguerite (via the Hebrew "Margalit", which means "pearl", and is also the origin of the French name Magali/Magalie).
Grace is similar in feel, but much more popular...

My great-grandmother (Ethel) had sisters called Grace, Pearl, Edna (nickname Edie) and Mabel (May), most of which are pretty much making a comeback right now. Ethel probably won't for a while yet, because our generation remembers the Eastenders character, but I bet it won't be long Smile

Betsey is a nickname for Elizabeth, which is timeless and beautiful, IMO.

Sophronia · 20/01/2015 18:47

Pearl is my favourite of your list.

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 20/01/2015 18:51

OK, as long as you don't already have a son called Dean.

Lazymummy2014 · 20/01/2015 18:53

Am I the only one thinking pearl necklace? Sorry... but I bet the teenage boys in her class at high school will be too!

HenriettaTurkey · 20/01/2015 18:58

I know of a little baby called Pearl and she is gorgeous.

chickydoo · 20/01/2015 19:00

Pearl's a singer

Lagoonablue · 20/01/2015 19:01

What about Nancy?

AvonCallingBarksdale · 20/01/2015 19:02

Pearl is a fantastic name

CornChips · 20/01/2015 19:16

I always liked Pearl very much. It is a little out there for now, but these very classic names are coming back, and so it will not be too wierd or too unusual.

CornChips · 20/01/2015 19:18

Also called the 'teardrops of the moon'. How beautiful is that?!

Blahia · 20/01/2015 19:28

Pearl is lovely :) sounds strong, feminine, creative and caring. Go for it.

shakemysilliesout · 20/01/2015 19:40

I'm from London and don't say pearl very clearly. Imagine someone on eastenders saying it.

Scottish people tend to say Peril.

Will this bother you?

avocadotoast · 20/01/2015 21:05

I like Maggie; I was thinking about it earlier today.

I also like Pearl though Smile it's not something I'd choose myself, but it sounds kind of...refined? I like it.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 20/01/2015 21:12

She stands up when she plays the piano!

Bit old fashioned for me, not quite in the 'old name, made a comeback' league quite yet. Who knows, you may be a trendsetter.

Cupcakes123 · 20/01/2015 21:13

Looooooove Pearl Smile
It's my youngest sisters middle name as she was born on "pearl ward"

imip · 20/01/2015 21:20

I have a Pearl. I'm in London, everyone pronounces it just fine!

Of all my dcs, her name is constantly complimented (it's my favourite name of them all, too)

There are two Pearl's in her school, and I know of a total of 4 locally.

Go for it, it really is a pretty name. She has a lovely middle name also, but it's quite unusual, so don't want to out myself more than I already have!
