Which do you think is the nicest and goes best with DD1 Louisa?

So choices are

Ruby Isabella

Olivia Rose

Both are quite similar in terms of popularity where we are.
Many thanks!

Oh, I've just seen that dd1 is Louisa. I wouldn't have Louisa and Olivia - too similar sounding, especially when angry and shouting Wink

Have you thought about Rose/Rosie as as a first name, OP? Rosie Olivia / Rosie Isabelle go very nicely.

NanaNina · 19/01/2015 01:16

Olivia, Isabella and Ruby are SO popular. I agree that Louisa is a lovely underused name and it would be nice to find something else similar. What about Harriet or Helena (as someone else suggested) Francesca maybe? Classes are going to be full of Lilys, Olivias, Isabellas, Rubys, Evies, Graces, Ellas, Daisies, Poppys, Islas, but not Louisas!

Myfourblondies · 19/01/2015 13:24

Love Olivia Rose or Isabella Rose, not too keen on Ruby, sorry.

Myfourblondies · 19/01/2015 13:28

Isabella Florence is lovely too

TheyLearnedFromBrian · 19/01/2015 13:46

No to Ruby - this will date, and not in same league as Louisa.

No to Isabella - two ending in 'a' sounds not so good, and Isabella is SO popular.

Isobel and Louisa - good (Isobel Jane? - prefer it with an 'o')

Josephine Charlotte
Sarah Catherine
Beatrice Rose

Both Ruby and Olivia are VERY popular already, they might start to sound dated soon. Love Louisa, on the other hand!

Clara, Beatrice or Antonia are all lovely and less overused.

Sparkleheart · 19/01/2015 17:51

Wow thanks everyone, this is very helpful! I totally get where you're coming from if you've said the names on our list are v popular. The thing is, I just don't really like any other names enough so far to consider using them, so I'm not sure i would want to discount a name just because of its popularity. Additionally we are in Northern Ireland so the names actually aren't as popular here as they might be in England for example. Of course, I would so love to find a name which is as uncommon as Louisa and that I also love as much but that just doesn't seem to be happening unfortunately!!

Vinotime I would totally use Rose as a first name but my sister got there first with my niece!!

If not bothered about popularity, I think Isabel/Isobel could be your winner.

You love it
It fits with Louisa
No 'a' ending
Could have Ruby, Jane whatever as a middle name

Belle is a lovely nickname.

I have a 7 year old Olivia and am also in NI, it's nowhere near as popular here Smile, she's the only one in her P3 year, was the only one in nursery school as well. If it helps I know more Rubys under the age of 4, there are three in the toddler group I used to take my youngest to. Isabella is lovely, the two I know aren't shortened at all. I realise I'm not being very helpful but they are both lovely.

I wouldn't worry too much about both your daughters names ending it the same letter (all 3 of mine do) and it's only really when parents say their names together that you really notice.

Mine gets called Liv quite a bit.

Sparkleheart · 20/01/2015 19:23

Hi wigglesrock thank you, that's actually really helpful! It's interesting you know more Ruby's. I don't personally know any Isabella's or Olivia's and only know of one wee Ruby who is 3 I think. I think Dhs favourite is Olivia at the minute so that might very well be the one we go with. It is a lovely name so it's good to hear its not as popular as I might have thought! We would definitely shorten to Liv or Livvy I reckon as Louisa gets Lulu quite a lot so it'd be nice to have nickname possibilities with this one too. Thank you!

Anyone any thoughts on Tessa? Tessa Jayne maybe? Just saw it on here in another thread. Had forgotten it was on my list at the start of my pregnancy. I'm thinking it could be a contender!

I love love love Tess, was on a shortlist for dd3, but I don't like Tessa. I know it's only a letter but to me it makes a huge difference Smile

mathanxiety · 20/01/2015 20:58

I think Tess and Tessa are both lovely. Tessa Jayne is a very nice combination. Goes very well with Louisa too.

Sparkleheart · 20/01/2015 21:12

I love Tess and Tessie as wee nicknames but couldn't have Tess as a full first name as surname starts with S, so they just run into each other. I prefer Tessa as a more 'complete' name i think, just my opinion of course! Just ran it by my husband and he likes it too so it's definitely on the list!

Thank you mathanxiety, that's good to hear you think it's nice and goes well with Louisa! I'm definitely liking it myself!

There are 4 Isobels/Isabelles/Isabellas in dd's class. Two Ruby's. One Olivia.

I'd go with Olivia over the three.

But what about Imogen?

Sparkleheart · 20/01/2015 22:06

Wyamc I think Olivia slightly has the edge for us out of those 3. I have pondered Imogen and do like it, I'm just not totally sure about it I don't think. Not sure if it has as nice a sound to it as some of our other choices, although it is definitely a lovely name.

No it's not such a pretty sound I agree.
