Would you call your DD Luna if...

Your surname was very similar to Moon? Think one similar sounding letter out?

Or can you think of other astral names?

I like Astrid but I don't love it like Luna.

We can't use a name beginning with C.

(I know I'm here a lot recently, I'm struggling to name this baby and I want her to have a name when she's born!)

Heloise as a variant of Eloise?

MrsMcRuff · 15/01/2015 13:16

I would call your dd Luna, whatever anyone else says about it not going with the surname.

Lots of names don't 'go' in the abstract, but months down the line I don't think you or anyone else will give it a second thought. Dd will own her name, and if you don't go with your first love, you might regret it for evermore!

Some surnames might be considered 'difficult' to work with, whatever the first name/s (my maiden name was a case in point!), so I shouldn't agonise over it too much. In most everyday circumstances, she's going to be Luna, rather than Luna Munn, and there's nothing wrong with that, anyway. FWIW, I think it sounds rather snappy, and definitely memorable! Smile

I always say this but if you are looking a classical names eg Ariadne, Andromeda, Persephone etc make sure you red the associate myth and are happy with it eg you wouldn't call your son Oedipus would you? (though Tom Leher would say "as long as he loves his mother"!)

Thea ;)

Titsalinabumsquash · 15/01/2015 13:29

I've not heard of Ariadne apart from whilst watching Atlantis Blush is it terrible?

I think names ending on as "s" sound work well with your surname.

Agnes
Beatrice
Damaris

Deerhound · 15/01/2015 13:50

Also, longer names ending in l

Abigail
Rosabel
Maribel

Also

Hazel
Gabrielle

Are you really sold on Barbara?
There are lots of lovely derivations on Elaine (which comes from Helen) which you could use instead?
www.behindthename.com/name/elaine

eg: X Jayne Elin/Ella/Helena/Helene

Or Elina Jayne Munn or am I forgetting someone? I doubt MIL would be at all bothered about using a derivative if it became a first name. Though if your mum is Jayne then I guess she might.

YonicSleighdriver · 15/01/2015 14:05

Ella-Jayne?

Thumbwitch · 15/01/2015 14:10

Oh I LOVE Ariadne. Always have. And also Evadne.

Don't like Luna with your surname, although don't mind it in general (and I liked her in HP too)

Agree that you shouldn't have BJ initials in there if you can avoid it, so reversing them would be better.

What about Alethea, Thea for short? Alethea pronounced Al-uh-THEE-ah. I love that name too.

Titsalinabumsquash · 15/01/2015 14:10

I like that Barbara is both MIL's middle name and my grandmothers name. My own Mum died a few years ago and she was Jayne.

DP doesn't actually like the name Jayne much at all really but he knows it means a lot to me, I know he's keen to honour his mum in there somewhere as am I because she's a truly lovely lady, she wouldn't care a bit if none of her names featured in there but it's important to us.

Persephone?

Yay4may · 15/01/2015 14:25

I agree with RoyalN that something long and tinkly goes with your last name so OP maybe you could revisit DH suggestion of Arianna as I really like that with your last name.
It's not as flows with middle names but I think of that as its own package almost separate from the other two in a way. My children have 4 names (2 Middle) for cultural reasons and their middle ones don't match in style or sound to the first names.

Guin1 · 15/01/2015 14:27

Other possible celestial names:
Aurora
Elara
Miranda
Vega
Vela

TheSporkforeatingkyriarchy · 15/01/2015 15:16

I would go with something longer (and all of my children have 2 middle names as well) as your surname is quite short rather than the sounds. Also I just like longer names as being more satisfying to say when frustrating Wink.

Celestial names I like (that I haven't spotted being mentioned): Danica/Danika (morning star/Venus), Celestine, Astraea, Lusine (moon, though likely too close to Lucy for you and a bit short), Diantha (heavenly flower).

rougebleu · 15/01/2015 16:32

I think Luna Munn is absolutely fine.

lemisscared · 15/01/2015 16:37

I like persephone, persephone jayne barbera munn - works

persephone mun = works

Luna munn - works

luna barbera jayne munn- doesn't work

luna jayne babera munn, that works

Butterpuff · 15/01/2015 16:48

I was watching pointless last night and a nice couple won the jackpot with names of moons. Some lovely ones that are very Shakespearean came out that I didn't know about.

Here is a list that might have something you like on it.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_natural_satellites

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 15/01/2015 16:58

Luna is a very pretty name, but it's also risky for teasing I.e luna tic. Children can be so cruel, and I certainly wouldn't put it with Munn it's too much like Moon as you say.

zipzap · 15/01/2015 17:18

How much of him wanting Barbara first is because it's his mum's name? Either because he wants her to be first or because when you read out your dd's name it will sound like his mum's name at the end of the name (he will be used to hearing her called barbara munn) rather than a name that is all your dd's iyswim.

Either way, I agree with all the other posters that you want to avoid BJ as initials in there!

Blackforestdonuts · 17/01/2015 20:16

Cassiopeia
Selene
Pandora

Blahia · 17/01/2015 20:24

Love Luna! And also like Astrid. Both great names. I think it's fine with your surname. But I agree; no C names! Haha!

Otherwise how about Lola?
