Clemen-teen or Clemen-tyne?

I think it looks lovely written down but I only really like the 'teen' pronunciation....

Clem-on(French en sound)-teen for the name, a more English clemen-teen for the fruit Smile

TheLastThneed · 11/01/2015 21:49

Teen

seaoflove · 11/01/2015 21:50

That Mark Owen song is one of my guilty pleasures Grin

diggerdigsdogs · 11/01/2015 22:31

Teen - the one I know is a teen.

SoonToBeSix · 11/01/2015 22:32

Tyne, teen is a made up pronunciation.

Trumpton · 11/01/2015 22:37

...And her shoes were number nine,
Herring boxes without toppses,
Sandles were for Clementine.

So Clemen-Tyne for me.

plus3 · 11/01/2015 22:39

Tyne for name, teen for fruit......was convinced DD would be Clementine (Clemmie) but it was a huge no from DH. Boo

18yearstooold · 11/01/2015 22:44

Tyne

But thinking about it I pronounce the fruit teen

I blame the song

Cockadoodledooo · 11/01/2015 22:44

Tyne for name, teen for fruit. No idea why it should be different but it is!

juneybean · 11/01/2015 22:45

Tyne

Although thought fruit was teen

KERALA1 · 11/01/2015 22:46

Tyne to rhyme with wine. Unless you are living in France.

Jux · 11/01/2015 22:53

Teen.

Jux · 11/01/2015 22:54

The song says tyne. Shecould be nicknamed Billabong!

GettingFiggyWithIt · 11/01/2015 22:59

Prefer teen but tyne is more commom due to song

GettingFiggyWithIt · 11/01/2015 22:59

Common, even

SoonToBeSix · 11/01/2015 23:27

Fruit isn't meant to be pronounced teen.

mathanxiety · 12/01/2015 06:38

Clementeen here for the name, clementyne for the fruit.
I believe Clementine Churchill used the -teen pronunciation.

pumpkinsweetie · 12/01/2015 06:46

tyne

Jux · 12/01/2015 08:09

Call her Satsuma instead Wink

KERALA1 · 12/01/2015 09:01

The name was a name long before some monk named his type of orange clementine. Think the Tyne pronunciation way better personally but don't think either right or wrong. Fabulous name

CatsClaus · 12/01/2015 09:04

like Christine innit....Clementine

unless you are singing the song and then it rhymes with mine/nine

loislines · 12/01/2015 09:19

I can happily use either for the name so would just say whichever you prefered OP. Lovely name.

Belazu84 · 12/01/2015 11:02

I say teen based on the couple I know! Always assumed it was French in origin.
