I've not heard of it before, but I read it as tail spin. How is it pronounced?

DeepTurquoise · 05/01/2015 15:20

It's pronounced tal-eeh-ess-in, it's an old welsh name meaning 'shining brow' (we are welsh!)

It's a theatre in Swansea. I'd wonder if you were Welsh actors Grin

Bluestocking · 05/01/2015 15:22

Love it! There was a thread about it a little while ago.

Etihad · 05/01/2015 15:22

Pronounced tally-ass-in? I like it, I know of a boy with that name - in Wales, so I always presumed it was Welsh.

DeepTurquoise · 05/01/2015 15:22

Haha not actors but my partner is a bit of a Mabinogion / legends geek! And I just love the sound of the name

I love it, dh is Welsh and he really loves it and wants it on the list. We live in London between two posh areas and I'm worried about it sounding pretentious outside of Wales?
Will be watching this thread to see what people think.

IsadoraQuagmire · 05/01/2015 15:53

I like it. I've only seen it spelled with double S before (probably in Tennyson) but I prefer it with one.

Marcipex · 05/01/2015 16:02

Love it.

Showy · 05/01/2015 16:05

Fab name. Really like it.

CaptainJamesTKirk · 05/01/2015 16:14

It used to be the name of the 'canteen' in the Cardiff university union. I used to get jacket potatoes there.

shoobidoo · 05/01/2015 16:16

Love it!

DramaAlpaca · 05/01/2015 16:44

It's one of those names that I love but I'd never use myself DH would put his foot down

Rhubarbgarden · 05/01/2015 17:42

I like it, but it's a bit of a mouthful.

daholster · 05/01/2015 21:56

I met one who is 3 months old in Surrey the other day. Being English I had no idea how to say it when I had to call him in!!! So to me it's an unusual name. In Wales it would be lovely. In London it would also be lovely fishfinger for the very unusual factor but you would spend your whole life (and so might he) trying to explain how to say and spell it to the majority of the locals!

Guin1 · 06/01/2015 05:09

Love it. It would be on my list if bump were a boy.

fishfingerSarnies · 06/01/2015 08:05

Hearing such positive feedback I'm debating haveing it back on the list. We plan on moving to Wales at some point in the next 2 years anyway and if we don't he will be at the Welsh school in London. Mmmm it's hard this naming business.

YoureMyWifeNowDave · 06/01/2015 08:11

Our neighbours named their house Taliesin!

MamaLazarou · 07/01/2015 20:04

It's lovely.

thatstoast · 07/01/2015 20:14

I'm welsh and I love that name. I probably wouldn't use it outside of wales but only because I have no patience for people who pronounce things incorrectly.

PattyPenguin · 07/01/2015 20:18

The neighbours who named their house Taliesin might have done so since it was the name of the architect Frank Lloyd Wright's series of houses (4 in all). Wright's relatives of Welsh descent gave their houses Welsh names, and Wright in turn used the name of the ancient Welsh poet for his homes.

DeepTurquoise · 08/01/2015 16:36

Thanks for all the feedback guys! Seems like it's a pretty popular name Smile
