You know that your babies will be their own people right? And not just extensions of your interest in fantasy books and/or TV?

MistyMistletoe · 03/12/2014 13:45

Congratulations Sleepy' Smile

My suggestions are

Girls
Paloma
Pearle

Boys
Stanley
Sidney

Notgoodwithwords · 03/12/2014 13:48

Sorry I know its not helpful but the only boys one I like is Stanley & none of the girls.. Maybe Paloma at a push. I'm not against unusual names but I don't think those on your list sound nice. Hmm

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 03/12/2014 13:49

I was a bit Confused about the opposition to Khaleesi, which without googling, I took to be a middle-eastern or Asian name, probably male.

Anyway, it would appear that there were 50 baby Khaleesis in the UK last year Shock.

PaleoRules · 03/12/2014 13:55

Poor children!!

whevs · 03/12/2014 14:17

Merlin is bloody ace, if you have the balls to go for it!

SoonToBeMrsB · 03/12/2014 15:37

I'm a total nerd and even I say a massive, resounding NO to all of the names on the list. In my opinion naming your child any of those would be really naff - sorry.

MollyBdenum · 03/12/2014 16:11

All of them, Soontobe? Even Thomas? Thomas is about as inoffensive as a name gets. And Minerva and Paloma are unusual but normal.

mathanxiety · 03/12/2014 16:42

Boys ~
Remus -- nice
Thomas -- nice
Castiel -- not nice as it is associated with a show.
Bronn -- prefer Bram. I would avoid pop culture in general as a source of names.
Wulfric -- ok, a bit attention seeking, big name to live up to as Wulf has almost exactly the pronunciation of Wolf. What if your boy isn't the dashing sort?
Ronald -- nice
Merlin -- trying too hard, and again, not a name I would like to have to live up to.
Stanley -- nice, so is Stanislas
Rogue -- name of a terrier.
Percy -- nn for penis
Azazel -- NO (meanings)

Girls~
Circe -- no (negative mythological association)
Paloma -- no (slang)
Sansa -- sounds like American 'sansabelt' old men's trousers and there is a coffee brand 'Sanka'
Minerva -- nice but NN would be Minnie, which is slang for vulva
Khaleesi -- I think the GoT and other pop culture references are silly.

Suggestions:
Dashiell
Juno

Love Bran and Bron, (Good historical names I have used in the past about 10 years pre GoT (horse breeder)).
Paloma is also quite funky.

Ronald is good too, but I could never use it due to having probably the world's dodgiest relative with that name.

Arven · 03/12/2014 23:23

Bran was Finn McCool's dog.

I mean, there has been worse inspiration for a name than a legend's dog. Why not? Woof Woof, reminds me of all bran though.

mathanxiety · 04/12/2014 02:47

You can't use Bran as the name of a child.
Every single Irish language textbook in every single year of primary school had a dog called Bran. It's the Irish equivalent of Spot.

mathanxiety · 04/12/2014 02:48

But Bram is cool.

Dirtymistress · 04/12/2014 04:06

Please don't go with any of the GOT names or other made up ones, they will date, as someone else already said, and when the children are at school they could just be an opportunity for ridicule from other children.

GoodtoBetter · 04/12/2014 09:30

How about Asael or Azael instead of Azazel?
Asael is used in Spain, means made of God apparently.

moxon · 04/12/2014 13:09

Surely - as a nerd, you know the worst of all world's is to go for geeky and get it wrong

^^this precisely.

moxon · 04/12/2014 13:10

(Well, not precisely. There is a typo after all...) Grin

RabidZombie · 04/12/2014 13:18

Please don't use Khaleesi. Just don't. It doesn't mean princess, it doesn't mean anything nice at all.

pictish · 04/12/2014 13:22

Don't use anything from Game of Thrones fgs.
Don't get me wrong...I'm a fan - we're an enthusiastically GoT household, but for the love of God to use the names isn't 'nerdy' - it's naff.

Badvocinapeartree · 04/12/2014 13:25

What's wrong with rob or Ned!?
Or Jaime?
I think arya is pretty.

pictish · 04/12/2014 13:28

I think using any current populist sensation as a source for names is a no no. Be it Frozen or GoT, it shows a lack of imagination imo...which I reckon is opposite effect to the one you were going for.

nilbyname · 04/12/2014 13:37

Please don't do a GoT name! I agree it's really naff and people will
Judge! Sorry to be blunt.

What about---
Erwin
Clover
Araminta
Aphra
Elodie
Ptolemy
Torin
Carwin
Cassiopeia
Ivan
Aurelia

Medibeagle · 04/12/2014 15:01

How about Aerin, Elayne, Ishmael or Rand?

Medibeagle · 04/12/2014 15:03

You cant have Khaleesi its like calling a child Queenie or Prince!

Medibeagle · 04/12/2014 15:05

Also its a big risk naming your child after a character from an unfinished series... Who know how she will end up!

How about Verin, Vaughn, Nettle, Soraya or Aviendha?
