No....very odd

beavington · 01/12/2014 23:32

Dont like it sorry. Dont think it has a nice sound to it and seems a bit pretentious (not sure i would think that about other literary names though so it might just be me)

TywysogesGymraeg · 01/12/2014 23:33

It's a surname, not a first name.

pieceoftoast · 01/12/2014 23:34

Gatsby. Gats for short. Somehow reminds me of slang terms for vomit and/or testicles.

Gatsby is too much of a mouthful.

pieceoftoast · 01/12/2014 23:35

(sorry, not bring mean, but Gats also reminds me of guts Grin)

Teeb · 01/12/2014 23:36

Feels a bit of a faddish name with how recently the film came out.

Mutteroo · 01/12/2014 23:36

Don't like the abbreviation of Gats which is highly likely to happen but I weirdly love Gatsby. Totally pretentious & bonkers - just the sort of name I would have had on my list but would have been vetoed by DH.

McFox · 01/12/2014 23:38

No, absolutely no.

ThrowAChickenInTheAir · 01/12/2014 23:39

Er..no.

HenriettaTurkey · 01/12/2014 23:41

If you want to go literary how about Atticus?

That's a cool name!

DramaAlpaca · 01/12/2014 23:46

No. It just doesn't sound nice as a first name.

Behoove · 01/12/2014 23:47

Great!

No.

divingoffthebalcony · 01/12/2014 23:49

No. As a first name it sounds ridiculous.

Luckystar82 · 01/12/2014 23:50

The connotations of that name make me thinks of decadence to the point of excess, American dream gone wrong. The novel is a cautionary tale in how not to live and the name is synonymous with that.

I'm sure there are lots of more positive literary characters to consider (can't think of any now though!)

Its very cool but.....It's more of a dogs name I think?

PerksOfBeingAMum · 02/12/2014 00:04

I just thought I should say that its the babies father who wants it not me. I like it but not for a child. Hopefully I can show him these and it will put him off Hmm

Dreadful. Sorry but it's just awful. Great novel though.

batteryhen · 02/12/2014 00:09

I had a horse called Gatsby once. He was beautiful. But it's not a name for a child!

KingCrimson · 02/12/2014 00:10

He'll get called Twatsby at school.

MeMyselfAnd1 · 02/12/2014 00:12

No way, that's like calling him "fido", it is not even a name.

catsofa · 02/12/2014 00:15

Gatsby is a surname. In the book the character's full name is Jay Gatsby. Gatsby is a really good name for a horse.

BackforGood · 02/12/2014 00:22

No

See all posts above.

No

You'd have to be a complete arse to saddle a child with that.
