I have fallen in love with this name. What do others think? Seems to be both feminine and boyish and elegant but simple.

How do you pronounce it? Sidney or Sid-o-ney? Are you ok with Sid? Because that's what it will be shortened to.

I was at school with a Sidonie. Naturally she was known 100% of the time as Sid.

Well, it's lovely if you say it with a French accent. If you're not in a French speaking country I'd just assume it'd be mispronounced all the time.

Sidonie is the French female version of a Roman name - Sidonius - which meant 'from the town of Sidon' (now in Lebanon).

In French, prn is approx Seed-oh-nee.

Hmmm never heard it before but as I saw it it just made me struggle to pronounce and end up with a word like sodomy!

I like it! ages ago I bought some shoes by a designer called Sidonie Larizzi or Laritzi and have always liked Sidonie since then.

I used to watch old films with Cyd Cherrise (sp?) so I grew up thinking it was the coolest name, but if the OP doesn't like Sid/Cyd she'd be silly to use Sidonie. I confess I'd not heard of it before this thread and presumed it was a variation on Sidney.
