I'm just canvassing opinions on this name. I literally just heard it this morning and I liked the sound of it. Its not one I've considered in the past but i do like biblical names. What do you think?

I like it for a boy. I also know a girl with that name

BestIsWest · 18/11/2014 06:44

Love it. It was my grandfather's name.

AuntieStella · 18/11/2014 06:45

Because of the dominance of the brand, which has kicked it out for most users (like Mercedes is now a car not a Catholic girl), I would expect someone using this OT name to be Jewish.

Lovely name though.

Iggly · 18/11/2014 06:49

Ooo I don't like it at all. Sorry.

Jennifersrabbit · 18/11/2014 06:57

Lovely name. I love Old Testament names.

Yes of course you have jeans association but there is a far older one - Levi the third son of Jacob and the Levites were (are?) the special set-apart priestly tribe in Israel. A good pedigree.

Because of above it is/was a widely used Jewish name so you might get the odd person leaping to the work conclusion (assuming you're not?) but that hardly seems the end of the world.

Jennifersrabbit · 18/11/2014 06:57

Sorry, wrong conclusion!

r2d2ismyidealman · 18/11/2014 06:58

Love it!

BestIsWest · 18/11/2014 07:04

My grandfather pronounced it to rhyme with navy by the way.

purplefeathers · 18/11/2014 07:04

We're not Jewish, no. I did just read on a comment on a website that it has two unfortunate anagrams - evil and vile. I think it puts me off a bit but should i let it? Live is also another anagram of course.

OP posts:
purplefeathers · 18/11/2014 07:06

I've read that that's an alternative pronunciation best.

KERALA1 · 18/11/2014 07:06

Just no. Because of the jeans connection it's used by people whose other child is named Armani or similar.

atticusclaw · 18/11/2014 07:47

I really like it as a name and if your other DC's names are also traditional then I think its nice. However I agree with Karala if you have other DCs called Chanel and Armani it becomes awful.

atticusclaw · 18/11/2014 07:50

I wouldn't be concerned about anagrams. Ive never taken the time to work out the anagrams of my name and then ponder over whether their meaning says anything about me.

ScrambledEggAndToast · 18/11/2014 08:07

I think it's quite chavvy, I think of participants of downmarket reality TV programmes (naming no names as likely to get an earful)

purplefeathers · 18/11/2014 08:11

I don't have other children named after brands Grin I don't immediately associate Levi with jeans either but perhaps some would.

Love it. I think it's really classic but nice and delicate all the time. Really timeless and popular without being everywhere.

velourvoyageur · 18/11/2014 08:12

oops I meant *at the same time !

purplefeathers · 18/11/2014 08:14

Really scrambled? It's not a name I've heard much of in popular culture recently although I don't watch downmarket reality tv so that may be why Grin

flipchart · 18/11/2014 08:14

I love it.

ICanTotallyDance · 18/11/2014 08:14

I think it's a perfectly fine name. It's a bit more common in the US, I believe, but it's quite nice and you're not likely to have three or four Levis in the class.

Stupidhead · 18/11/2014 08:19

My friend's daughter is 12 and called this, her teachers have pronounced it 'Levvy' though sometimes.

areyoubeingserviced · 18/11/2014 08:21

Used to like this name , but I now associate it with chavs

DuelingFanjo · 18/11/2014 08:34

It will always remind me of Paul Young.

shakemysilliesout · 18/11/2014 08:46

I think of Levi roots

Iggly · 18/11/2014 09:05

Scrambled said what I really meant...
