I'm just canvassing opinions on this name. I literally just heard it this morning and I liked the sound of it. Its not one I've considered in the past but i do like biblical names. What do you think?

Don't like it at all sorry

There is a British explorer by the name of Levison Wood which I think is an awesome name. (My only reservation about it, is the Levison enquiry but I think that is an association that will fade pretty quickly with time)

In a similar vein I love Reuben, Ezra and Asa all of which are either popular or gaining popularity. Elijah has been popular for a while too, so I wouldn't worry too much about a jewish assumption as I think its will be considered a lot more mainstream by peers.

LouiseBrooks · 18/11/2014 09:55

I love it (Had no idea anyone would consider it chavvy since I don;'t know anyone called i) and so what if people think you're Jewish?

LouiseBrooks · 18/11/2014 09:56

called "it" sorry, can't type.

CaulkheadUpNorth · 18/11/2014 10:08

Friends ds5 is Levi. I love it. She doesn't, but is still hoping it'll grow on her Confused

Lunastarfish · 18/11/2014 10:09

Levi is very chavvy round my way whereas Elijah is very middle class

TwigletLola · 18/11/2014 10:11

If you like Levi, how about Ezra? I also love Ephraim.

Sophronia · 18/11/2014 15:11

I like it, I'd like to see it used more often.

RaaRaaIsAnnoying · 18/11/2014 17:55

Jeans and East 17's dog

Squtternutbaush · 18/11/2014 18:05

I'm not in any way religious so had no idea it had biblical reference, I automatically thought of the brand.

I thought it was pronounced like 'levy' not like the jeans.

TimefIies · 18/11/2014 21:57

I strongly associate it as a Jewish name - so consider if you're happy people assuming your child is Jewish when they're not.

Jennifersrabbit · 18/11/2014 23:40

I think Levy is the correct Hebrew pronunciation (hence common Jewish surname Levy?), but the default pronunciation for all the ones I know is Lee-vi.

MsKittyKat123 · 19/11/2014 00:22

I hate to be negative but although it is a lovely biblical name it does have pretty chavvy connotations in my neck of the woods

KERALA1 · 19/11/2014 07:07

Peter? Heard it on the other thread think it's adorable. If I were naming a baby I would go back to the lovely original names that no one else is using. Levi and Ezra are to me trying too hard.

Jennifersrabbit · 19/11/2014 09:31

It strikes me from the couple I know as having a certain versatility which might be an advantage - in very middle class Guardian reading settings you have the Biblical vibe, but it blends in differently elsewhere. Reuben has a bit of the same quality Id say.

After all it's always possible that the DC wont want to be a High Court judge ...

purplefeathers · 19/11/2014 22:23

Thanks for all the opinions. I initially heard the name as it was mentioned on GMTV that it was Matthew mc(can't spell his name-actor)'s son and i thought it sounded nice.

I've actually gone of it a bit now.though.

Argh! This baby's never going to have a name! Grin

I have a Levi, middle name Elijah. I love it.
He's 20 now, and I ignore all chavvy connections, as far as I'm concerned it's a biblical name. My other ds's also have biblical names.
He does get called Lev-y sometimes, and that's one of his nicknames among his peers.
His old Jewish french teacher absolutely adored his nameSmile

Leeds2 · 19/11/2014 23:15

Reminds me of jeans.

BitterHoneyGreenNight · 19/11/2014 23:19

I like it. I'm Jewish though and do consider it a mainly Jewish name. I know a 3 year old called Levi. He's known as Lev which I also like.

purplefeathers · 20/11/2014 06:33

I tend to ignore the chavvy thing anyway as it's so subjective. Any name can be deemed 'chavvy' depending on where you are and who you know and who you class as being a 'chav'!

Love it! I also love OT names but unfortunately the equally gorgeous Jacob, Joshua and Noah are sooo popular nowadays. Levi is lovely and just a little bit different but still classic.

SueBridehead · 20/11/2014 07:45

Just to give you some other biblical options, my current favs are Elijah, Jude, Luke and Caleb.
