Grateful for your thoughts on our shortlist:

Nia
Alys
Bethan
Eilidh (pronounced Ay-lee)
Arianwen (we'd call her Ari for short)
Arianne (again, Ari for short)

Some context: We are in London. Surname is double-barrelled. We're happy all the above are culturally relevant for us :)

Congratulations!

I love Alys and Eilidh. Smile

WelshWereRabbit · 05/11/2014 20:46

I like Arianwen, Bethan or Alys. Eilidh is also lovely but will be difficult to spell and might get confused with Hayley. Not keen on Nia or Arianne.

LouiseBrooks · 05/11/2014 20:52

Arianwen - I love it.

Wheresthattoo · 05/11/2014 22:08

Nia and Arianne are equally beautiful (although Nia is Near which puts me off a tiny bit)

penguinthermometer · 06/11/2014 01:28

Love Alys and Eilidh, also like Arianwen. I wouldn't worry too much about the spelling issue with Alys. People will soon get used to it. My real name is super-boring, popular and easy to spell (think Jane or Helen type of thing) and honestly people regularly managed to get that wrong, you wouldn't believe how often!

sallysparrow157 · 06/11/2014 01:37

Snow spider fan by any chance? I think that, living in London, nia is most likely to be spelt and pronounced correctly (and she was my favourite character in the books too!).

Guin1 · 06/11/2014 04:13

Love Arianwen.

Eilidh in London will sound like Hayley ('Ayley). Eilidh and Alys both have spelling issues outside of Scotland/Wales.

Wishfulmakeupping · 06/11/2014 04:36

Nia is a great name. I know a grown up Nia and everyone comments on what a fab name it is.
Congrats op

siblingrevelryagain · 06/11/2014 04:39

I love Bethan!

Just a thought; might Arianwen with a double-barrelled surname be a bit of a mouthful syllable-wise?

fattycow · 06/11/2014 13:34

Arianne

TempsPerdu · 06/11/2014 15:24

Arianwen. All your choices are lovely, but this one really stands out for me. I'd go for Arianne, though, if you decide it's too much with a double-barrelled surname.

eatyourveg · 06/11/2014 15:40

Llongyfarchiadau (Congratulations) to you! Arianwen gets my No 1 vote

kelda · 06/11/2014 15:41

Really like Arianwen, although I would go for Anwen.

Onesipmore · 06/11/2014 15:47

Alys goes perfectly with a double barrelled surname and Congrats :)

AGnu · 06/11/2014 15:48

I love Arianwen but would use Anwen as a nickname. Nia's cute but I dislike Bethan... I've not got on with a single Bethan I've met & I've know quite a few!

Have you considered Angharad? Bit of a marmite name, I think, but I like it!

DecaffTastesWeird · 06/11/2014 16:50

Nia, Eilidh and Bethan are all lovely.

burgatroyd · 06/11/2014 17:46

Arianwen! So musical and trips off tongue. I wish I thought of it...

soundsystem · 06/11/2014 18:18

Thanks all :)

sallysparrow157 hehe yes. Although Bethan is DH's suggestion, and he hasn't read the books!

AGnu I love Angharad but it's a bit of a mouthful with our surname!

I have a clear favourite but might need to give it a couple of days to see if it sticks before announcing it to the world!

Many congratulations, OP. Just a quick mention. From what you say, Eilidh is not going to be your choice, but up here in Scotland it's not really pronounced 'Ay-lee'. It's much more like 'Ehh-leegh'. It's the Gaelic version of 'Helen', and that influences the pronunciation.

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 08/11/2014 10:47

Arianwen Smile

soundsystem · 17/11/2014 08:04

Thanks all

She's Arianwen :)
