Ok so I don't find out what I'm having until next fortnight & I have chosen both names yet I'm told that the girls name I have chose is too 'Chavvy' & I have to find something else by my 'D'M .

I'd like a none biased opinion so I have come to you lot for help & other name suggestions as I feel like I'm banging my head against a brick wall trying to find anything at all Smile

Sadie Liesel

Ruairi Atticus Norton

It's the girls name that I'm told is too chavvy/ common Confused & I still need a second middle name for girl as well .

Also if I like these what else would I like ?

Eternally grateful for any ideas/responses

I'm using Norton after my Df

All girls in my family have two middle names and I'd like to keep to that tbh

As for the spelling of Ruairi , I love it because it's so Irish and as for the spelling as long as the people that matter know the spelling then it doesn't really bother me at all Smile

Lovely first names. And IMO all MNs are entirely personal and - given that they won't be used daily - are irrelevant to anyone other than the children's parents and the child itself.

AuntySib · 30/10/2014 00:31

If you don't like Sarah, then Sadie could be a NN for Mercedes.

MrsJonSnow · 30/10/2014 00:48

Was your Mum a fan of that song form the 60s "Sadie the Cleaning Lady"?

I think it's got more Sadie Frost associations these days. Not chavvy.

I love Leisel!

MrsJonSnow · 30/10/2014 00:56

Zara is a stripper's name.

I saw it being dismissed on another thread because it was "too royal" so I'm not sure where the stripper thing comes in! Grin

Candy is a strippers name. Destiny, Heavenleigh, Dallas, but not Zara.

cruikshank · 30/10/2014 02:16

There are posh strippers!

(Admittedly not often royal strippers.)

mathanxiety · 30/10/2014 14:30

Zs and Xs in a name seem to lend themselves to the xxx world, with the possible exception of Xanthe, Zipporah and Hephzibah.

birdofthenorth · 30/10/2014 15:36

Sadie and Ruaridh are not remotely chavvy. Love them both.

TheGirlAtTheRockShow · 30/10/2014 15:43

Nope, not chavvy!

twinjocks · 30/10/2014 16:30

Also agree not chavvy, I really love the name Sadie (although could your mum be thinking of certain accents, in a strong Dublin accent it's not so good, for example. But then, many lovely names don't sound great in a strong Dublin accent!).

OliviaBlue · 30/10/2014 18:27

I'm guessing "chavvie" is like white trash?
I think Sadie is a nice name and Liesel is too German to be trashy.
Ruairi Atticus Norton is pretty interesting and I certainly wouldn't expect to hear a "chavvie" person say that.
So go for it :)

MyPandaisasecretmonster · 30/10/2014 19:07

Thanks everyone Smile

Also I remembered what the 2nd name was I wanted to use for a girl it's Cheyenne which isn't something I would of chose myself but my Df chose it many moons ago & I thought it would be nice to use in his memory iyswim .
anyway so girl would be -

Sadie Liesel Cheyenne

Is that too much ?

OP posts:
mathanxiety · 30/10/2014 19:17

If you want to avoid that C thing then I would not use Cheyenne, though it is the third name and therefore not that big a deal really. Is there any other name associated with your DF?

MyPandaisasecretmonster · 30/10/2014 19:23

Nope no other Girls names unfortunately

OP posts:
MrsJonSnow · 30/10/2014 21:33

Hmm, do you have Cheyenne blood in the family? If not I'd skip that one as it sounds odd (and potentially chavvy I'm afraid).

mathanxiety · 30/10/2014 21:42

If it's a link to your father then that's really quite nice.

MyPandaisasecretmonster · 30/10/2014 22:07

Nope no Cheyenne blood , my Df just liked to be different .

I don't like the spelling of Ruairi (I think I posted on a previous thread re the name "Eilidh" that I knew a Ruairi and it looks like he doesn't know how to spell his name Blush) but I'm Scottish and would always spell it Rhuaridh.

As mentioned above, the Sadies I know are old, balshy, bingo-playing busybody types but it could be cute on a little girl.

Bellyrub1980 · 01/11/2014 05:46

I like Sadie! And I LOVE German sounding names (for no reason in particular, they just sound pretty to me).

Bugger everyone else, pick the name YOU love! However, if like me you chose a name and then someone as important as a DM apposed it (we really liked Josephine, but this was poo-pooed big time by MIL) it kind of taints the name forever and I couldn't enjoy it after that.

We've now chosen a different name and haven't told a soul. I won't even say it on here because I know people will have strong opinions about the spelling (we've chosen the UK version, not the French and this seems to spark utter disgust in people for some reason, even though it's a very old English name and features in lots of 1800's poetry and literature!!).

Anyhoo, my point is, 'chavvy' is a matter of opinion. The name I've picked isn't chavvy (it's quite a traditional name) but I still know of 'chavs' who have that name. Sadie just doesn't evoke any chavvy images in my head.

I'm not even sure I know what chavvy means thinking about it.

However, if like you I was lucky enough to have a German surname I would take full advantage and go for a German (or Scandinavian?) sounding first name. Just because I love them do much, especially Leisel/Liesel.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 01/11/2014 22:41

I really like them both. Not at all chav!

GreenKay · 02/11/2014 12:42

Sadie has been hijacked by chavs in the north-east. I heard it being screamed in Asda in Newcastle last week so that has clouded my view of the name! I agree with the previous poster tht Saskia is an alternative with considering. Your boy name initials spell 'RAN' if that bothers you? I love Ruairi. Atticus is very popular in South West London, where I live, but as a middle name tht is probably far less important.

hollyisalovelyname · 02/11/2014 14:52

I love Saskia.
Please can you, wise Mumsnetters, tell me how to pronounce Ottilie.
Is it Oh Tilly
or
Ot (as in hot) illy ?
Thanks in advance.
Also Sheherezade. I never heard it said aloud but have seen people called that in papers/ magazines.
I'm the dumbo who thought Penelope was Pen eh lope ( as a child reading books) Smile

Toucanet · 02/11/2014 21:24

Well 2 middle names does give you more flexibility/options instead of having to pin it down to one, and though I find it a pain when you have to give it/them, does seem a little posh in a way! (Not more than 2 though e.g. not a whole football team)!

Saskia's ok. You wouldn't want to give her the initials SS though would you. Sorry personally don't like Cheyenne at all though, to me does seem chavvy (while Mercedes a posh-ish girl's name as well as a car, don't think that's true for Cheyenne)! More relevant to you perhaps it sounds a bit odd with Sadie Liesel? If I were you would stick to those 2 - they were your first choice after all. Don't feel obliged just because your Df liked it - unless you really do too.

squeak2392 · 03/11/2014 02:58

There's nothing wrong with Sadie

Squtternutbaush · 03/11/2014 03:10

I'm Scottish.

I have a great Aunt and a cousin called Sadie (well I recently found out they're called Sarah), i don't think its chavvy but do associate it with older women.

If DD was a boy she would've been Ruairi because we have Irish connections on my side rather than the Scottish Rhuaraidh because DP is dyslexic and despite trying couldn't write it and I love it but I think it sounds too much with the middle names you've chosen.
