Cartoon dog or filmstar?

Really can't decide if this is dreadful or tastefully unusual.

Love it!

LadyMaryofDownton · 28/10/2014 11:16

I love it & may consider it for DC3! I think using it as a dogs name has become a bit out dated so I wouldn't worry about that. But then again my name choices are considered a bit strange anyway

TempsPerdu · 28/10/2014 11:31

It's a bit of both I think! Not awful by a long shot, but it comes across as a bit 'try-hard cool' for my taste, like Spike or Ace. And the king connection would put me off a bit too - kind of like naming your child Duke or Prince. That's just me though - I'm sure this wouldn't bother a lot of people!

Wouldn't choose it myself, but there are far worse names out there.

scratchandsniff · 28/10/2014 11:48

I like it and have suggested it to DH for DS2 due in the spring. I do wonder if it might get a bit too popular though.

squoosh · 28/10/2014 12:07

I bloody love it.

WowserBooooooooooooser · 28/10/2014 12:13

I really like it. But am always baffled by 'dog' comments.

But that is probably because dogs these days are more likely to be called Kevin.

wingcommandergallic · 28/10/2014 12:36

Perhaps the litmus test should be, if you shout it at the playground do more children than dogs come running?

Grin

Thanks for the opinions everyone.

My 2 year old DS (who has the other name you like (your DH's full version, shortened most of the time)) is campaigning for his expected baby brother to be called T-Rex!

Marcipex · 28/10/2014 12:52

Dinosaur, but in a good way :)
You can predict what presents he will get!

wingcommandergallic · 28/10/2014 12:55

That's sweet MummyCoolski.
My DD is convinced we'll be calling the baby Fudge and cries if we say otherwise.
Mind you, she also thinks she has a baby in her tummy too. Must get a book about that....Hmm

The t-Rex from toy story, not a name for a baby

I love it but we had used it years earlier on the cat. I did contemplate having cat and son with the same name but in the end decided I couldnt do it so had to pick something else.

Use it!

Belazu84 · 28/10/2014 13:31

Love!

GrouchyKiwi · 28/10/2014 13:34

Sunna We had an Alsatian called Rex.

OP you can only use Rex if the middle name is Manning.

ireallydontlikemonday · 28/10/2014 13:38

Dog unfortunately - I really like it.

Leeds2 · 28/10/2014 13:39

Our black labrador was called Rex (mid 1970s). He was lovely, but to me Rex will always be a dog's name.

squoosh · 28/10/2014 13:46

It definitely has a dog link but that wouldn't put me off. The parks these days are teeming with Rubys and Charlies of the four legged and two legged variety.

MiddletonPink · 28/10/2014 13:56

Gorgeous.

Rex is a human name. As is Sam, Oscar, Charlie and Poppy.

Fido, Prince and Major are dogs names Smile

singersgirl · 28/10/2014 14:01

I really like it and it was on my list for DS2 13 years ago!

Most of the dogs I know are called things like Sam, Finn, Oscar, Molly, Meg, Sally, Louis and Ben - but nobody suggests you shouldn't give those names to your child.

DecaffTastesWeird · 28/10/2014 14:02

I really, really strongly dislike it (sorry)! I don't like the meaning either (King).

lloydlf33 · 28/10/2014 14:10

I really like and we're planning in using it as a mn this time. I think the dog thing is misleading as most people bow wouldn't associate it with that. It's also a personal thing I think for example I've had dogs called Jude, Ffion, Mia, and Amber so for me they are dogs names and I could never use them in a baby but for others they have no such connotation.

Sophronia · 28/10/2014 15:38

Dog or dinosaur.

Alisvolatpropiis · 28/10/2014 18:28

Love it.

Surname is too short for me to use it. It sounds like a command.

spamanderson · 28/10/2014 19:23

I quite like it but to me it's along the lines of Max etc, dog names IMO.
