Discussing names with DH earlier. Either sex. We are fussy... these are the qualities we both agree on!

I love Georgia but DH reminded me that some would pronounce as 'Jaw-jah' and that really put me off!

Quite like androgynous names too- Charley, Alex etc.

Ideas?!

You do know what unique means, right?

joanofarchitrave · 12/10/2014 22:38

Unique is the tricky one...

Jamie
Rowan
Robin

Skiingmaniac · 12/10/2014 22:39

Pippa
Fred ( I remember a girl at school called Fred....must have been fredricka?)

cremedecacao · 12/10/2014 22:39

whoops, unique not the right word at all.... I mean not-too-popular

love Robin! And Pippa actually, hadn't thought of that

For androgynous, I really like Frank/Frankie.

SanityClause · 12/10/2014 22:42

Could've been Winnifred, as well, Skiing.

cremedecacao · 12/10/2014 22:43

Love Frankie so much, but I know a baby with that name :(

I know a woman called Fred. Her actual name is Lynn. Which is usually feminine, but is also a Welsh male name. Might raise a few eyebrows if you have a boy and aren't Welsh though.

It's strange that names like Jamie (short for James) are seen as quite trendy but Lynn for a boy would be seen as a bit out there and maybe even unkind.

Are there any names that are traditionally female that are starting to be used for boys?

How do you pronounce Georgia?

Alexa
Sybilla - Billy
Roberta
Francesca - Frankie
Peta
Simona
Antonia

cremedecacao · 12/10/2014 23:36

Surf- less emphasis on the second syllable. GEOR-gia rather than Geor-GIA.

I like Billy/Billie, but not sure on Sybilla.

Scaevola- one of those names is very similar to my own! Perhaps thats why I like them!?

Thinkivebeen- Elliot is lovely for a boy, putting that on the list!

I also quite like simple names like Amy and Kate- too plain?

Surfsup1 · 13/10/2014 00:01

Ah, I see. I don't think I've ever heard it with an emphasis on the 2nd syllable. Is it a regional thing?

For the boys

Leo
Billy/William/Wilbur
Patrick
Alistair/Al
Anthony
Marcus
Toby

cremedecacao · 13/10/2014 00:08

Hard to explain...I think I mean that I don't like it when the end syllable is really obvious, probably a regional thing. I prefer George-uh to George-ah iyswim.

William is on my list! I like Al too.

Harriet (Harry)
Maxine (Max)

cremedecacao · 13/10/2014 00:16

Harriet is nice, I know an adult with that name fairly well...weighing up whether that matters or not!

Max is my top boy name ;)

moxon · 13/10/2014 00:20

Mrs Felix is actually unisex in origin, but was gradually lost as a girls' option due to rise in Felicity in the 17th c.
Fwiw I really like Max for a girl, from Maxine, as also suggested above. Emory for a boy?

Surfsup1 · 13/10/2014 00:27

I'm going to listen very carefully to people saying Georgia from now on! When I try to imagine it with added emphasis on the 2nd syllable my brain seems to add a Welsh accent!? Grin I keep imagining Tom Jones saying Georg-AH Grin

Bettercallsaul1 · 13/10/2014 00:43

Emory, Moxon ? Wouldn't you get board of that?

Aussiemum78 · 13/10/2014 01:02

Haha my daughter is Georgia ans she could have been a Max. My name is in your list too.

Other names I liked: Alexandra, Avery, Allegra, ruby, Amelia/Millie. For some reason lots of a names. Think I had Brooke as well.

Caitlin?

There's a few girls with names like charlie, Billie and Harper running around at the moment.

StripyBanana · 13/10/2014 01:32

I thought someone locally was mispronouncing wtih Gorge-uh. I thought it was Jor - gia, with the gia pronounced!
