Margot? I posted on here a while ago looking for a sibling name to go with DD Amelie. French living in UK. Do you like it ? Would pronunciation be an issue ? Thanks

Do.not.like!

ProbablyMe · 08/10/2014 13:41

I like it.

squoosh · 08/10/2014 13:44

I love it, as long as I think of Margot Fonteyn and not Margot from the Good Life.

Pastamancer · 08/10/2014 13:45

Pronunciation shouldn't be an issue, it's a name that has been around here for years

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 08/10/2014 13:45

Love it. In my top 3 girls names. I know of a couple under fives.

MrsMcRuff · 08/10/2014 13:45

Nothing intrinsically wrong with Margot. Just always think of Margot Leadbetter in 'The Good Life', and feels too heavy for a child's name, although I suppose all Margots were children once!

How about Genevieve?

NewEraNewMindset · 08/10/2014 13:45

I'm not keen I'm afraid.

squoosh · 08/10/2014 13:48

I think it's got an air of 1930's glam about it. The name of a beautiful and haughty society gel who gets caught up in all sorts of fun and scandalous happenings.

devoncreamtea · 08/10/2014 15:32

I love it. I know 2 girls called Margot and Cecile, French Mum.

Margot and Amelie - great combo!

grufallosfriend · 08/10/2014 15:34

I don't find it feminine at all. There is also the question of pronunciation - the French way (Mar-go) or the German (Mar-gott).

AugustaGloop · 08/10/2014 15:34

I know one spelt Margaux. It suits her and has grown on me.

IHeartKingThistle · 08/10/2014 15:36

Gorgeous name. I wish it was my name!

TheresLotsOfFarmyardAnimals · 08/10/2014 15:36

Would the nickname be Maggie or Marge? English folk always turn names into a nickname where at all possible

PatriciaHolm · 08/10/2014 15:46

Like it. DD (10) is friends with one, who has no nickname.

SoonMeansNever · 08/10/2014 16:19

I like it, but do tend to associate it with Margot Leadbetter. Smile

An encounter between Jean Harlow and Margot Fonteyn:
JH (obnoxiously): Well hello, Margott!
MF (coldly): My dear Jean, the T is silent, as in Harlow harlot.

I really like it. I know a fab 8 year old Margot.

shakemysilliesout · 08/10/2014 19:21

Really like it- don't let this put you off but in the sweet valley books there was a brown haired girl called margot who tried to kill Jessica/ elizabeth at the fun fair- classic sweet valley high- and doesnt put me off the name!

WobbilyFang · 08/10/2014 19:24

I love it. In my mind it is the colour of margarine, a lovely sunny yellow.

I don't like it, to be honest. I don't think it sounds nice: two long syllables, and that hard 'g' in the middle...

I find it a very heavy and serious-sounding name next to the lilting Amelie.

WestEast · 08/10/2014 19:56

Love

fuzzpig · 08/10/2014 20:02

I absolutely love it and am trying to convince DH about it in case our (so far imaginary) DC3 is a girl! Although there's no French in the family.

I associate it more with Despicable Me :o

TheFairyCaravan · 08/10/2014 20:08

I like it.

There was a girl in DS2's(17) class at school called Margot.

JeanChappa · 08/10/2014 21:11

I LOVE Margot! Please use it! I can't imagine pronunciation being an issue.

weebarra · 08/10/2014 21:16

Love it, it was on an early list of mine for DD but was vetoed!
