Margot? I posted on here a while ago looking for a sibling name to go with DD Amelie. French living in UK. Do you like it ? Would pronunciation be an issue ? Thanks

I like it. Also suggest Martha ?

Slavetominidictator · 08/10/2014 21:24

Love it - it's my dd's middle name and she is just two. My mum can't stand it because of good life associations. Completely love it - do it!!

catsofa · 08/10/2014 21:25

I like it! It would be "mar-go" here, a few people might be confused and say mar-got first time if they haven't seen the name before, but many will be familiar with The Good Life and pronounce it mar-go, which I think must be the French pronunciation? So no problem.

Grew up in the 70's. Ledbetter.

I like it a lot. It was on my list but DH couldn't agree sadly.

looki · 08/10/2014 21:30

I like it but not enough to use it.

Also live Celeste?

almapudden · 08/10/2014 21:32

Oh I think it's beautiful.

ThursdayLast · 08/10/2014 21:34

Love it, unequivocally

Alicarmen · 08/10/2014 21:34

Thanks all, some great positive feedback. Not sure about the nick name, the french do not tend to abbreviate names as much as here in the UK !

It's great Smile

ashtrayheart · 08/10/2014 21:38

I also love Vivienne!

BriocheBriocheBrioche · 08/10/2014 21:46

I am biased but I love it! I'm English living in France but have never had pronunciation issues with English friends and family. I think it goes beautifully with Amelie too.

Castlemilk · 08/10/2014 22:22

Really lovely.

wingcommandergallic · 08/10/2014 22:25

It's lovely and sounds very classy.
I always think of Gerald Durrell's sister but don't let that put you off.

MilkThistle187 · 08/10/2014 22:40

I love it, if I had another girl she would be Margot Smile

KatieKaye · 08/10/2014 22:40

It wasn't Margot Fonteyn who said that to Jean Harlow, it was Margot Asquith!

As for nicknames - Margot often is used as a nickname for Margaret or Marguerite.

Sophronia · 08/10/2014 23:40

I like it.

squeak2392 · 09/10/2014 00:38

I love it :) Spelling might be an issue for littl'uns, but they'll learn :)

ShadowStar · 09/10/2014 00:51

I only realized about 6 months ago that the 't' in Margot is meant to be a silent t.

SoonMeansNever · 09/10/2014 01:11

KatieKaye Damn, but thank you! I always get these things slightly wrong. Blush

Snowmonkey77 · 09/10/2014 01:13

Love it, husband hates it so can't use it :( I know a baby Margot and think it is such an elegant name.

TheWholeOfTheSpoon · 09/10/2014 01:39

I LOVE the name Margot and wish I'd thought of it 13 years ago when I had a DD to name, instead of the "out of the charts unpopular but about to hit the Top 10 in the next 10 years" name that we chose.

Amelie and Margot sound great together.

FYI though...you're a French mum living in the UK, you can call your kid what the Hell you like and, with your accent, it will still sound fantastic!!

MummyBeerest · 09/10/2014 01:43

Beautiful!

CheerfulYank · 09/10/2014 01:47

I like it! We have a Margaret and she is mostly Maggie, but we call her Margot occasionally. :)

I think of Gwyneth Paltrow's character in the Royal Tennenbaums :o

Shake wasn't Margot (in SVH) the girl who looked like Jessica and Elizabeth and was trying to kill one and take her place?

shakemysilliesout · 09/10/2014 06:34

Yep, what a great plot! We need a SVH names thread- anyone for Todd?
