The boy name equivalent to Alice

Alice is DDs middle name, picked in the main due to its literary connection, and as a traditional alternative to her "quirkier" first name (again, from childrens literature).

We are expecting a son this month and have again selected a rare first name, no literary connection this time, and I would like something quite traditional for his middle name.

The first name will be Travis, and our surname is long and begins with a C, however the first and middle name dont need to "flow" necessarily as we rarely use DDs first and middle name together.

So.......a boy Alice style name. If that makes sense.

Peter sounds good to me. Or Evelyn if you want to be cruel.

Don't dismiss Alice and Alistair. Just think of the savings on name labels. Grin

Yes, go with Lawrence!

(I've been hanging around too much on these threads and remember you liking it before. It definitely ticks literary rather and traditional boxes. I do however think of DH Lawrence and Lawrence Durrell first rather than Little Woman).

As far as animal names go I prefer Wolf to Fox, but I think this is entirely down to the push chair scene in the film Away We Go that puts a smile on my face whenever I think of it. Smile

I have an Alice

Boys names that we considered were Toby, Peter, Alexander, Edmund and Oliver.

BumpNGrind · 03/10/2014 09:03

I have a cousin named Travis Finley which is nice.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 03/10/2014 09:04

Oh, DH suggested Finley as a first name so he may like to use it as a MN.

Do you want a literary connection?

Is Alice in Wonderland particularly significant to you? If so Lewis or Charles (Lewis Carroll's real name) ?

BikeRunSki · 03/10/2014 09:10

I know a brother and sister called Alison and Alistair. Was always a bit Hmm about that.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 03/10/2014 09:14

Surely they both get "Ali" aswell..how odd...

Mmm literary would be good, but as Travis isnt connected then Im not going to force the issue. I just feel a bit deflated about naming ds tbh as I dont love any name. Sadly. With DD, she was the name she was because I adore her first name. I also had a list of really loved names for this one if it were a DD.

I seem to find naming a boy very difficult.

Boys names are harder I agree. We're having two middle names both with family connections. Do you have any names that may be used from your family?

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 03/10/2014 09:42

Not particularly, no Grandparents on either side (of DH and I, not the baby!) and DHs dads name is the same as my first serious boyfriend so Id feel odd using that. And my dads name is Terence Grin.

I would like to use DHs best friends name as he now lives in NZ and we dont see him anywhere near as much as we would like (and its a nice name - Aidan) but DH wasnt too fussed about that suggestion.

Ponders possibility a new DH would be easier.

I really like Hugh, although I have a welsh mother so would use Huw.

Travis Huw C.......

You can change aiden to Adrian?

BumpNGrind · 03/10/2014 09:48

Travis Tezza does have a certain ring to it! I like the Aiden link but I think my DH would have the same kind of reaction as yours if I suggested his best friend (who also lives abroad).

Hugh/Huw is lovely and I love the link to your dm being Welsh. I'm also Welsh so maybe you could look at exploring some of those names?

Travis Haydn could be a good bet too?
