What are your thoughts on this for a little girl?

Bloody awful. American, overly twee.

Viviennemary · 24/09/2014 11:53

I agree. It's far too twee for somebody's proper name. But I suppose it's OK as a sort of nickname.

Spirael · 24/09/2014 11:59

I like it! Uncommon so you're unlikely to meet many, but well known enough that people can spell/pronounce it. Traditionally short for Melinda, but can be an abbreviation for Miranda too.

squoosh · 24/09/2014 12:07

Cheerleader who is the first to die in a slasher horror.

fussychica · 24/09/2014 12:07

Mork & Mindy US nutty comedy show - step away from this name!

Chennai · 24/09/2014 12:09

My first thought was Mork.

WowserBowser · 24/09/2014 12:12

Agree with mymum

marjolaine · 24/09/2014 12:15

I immediately thought Mindy Kaling. Never seen her show or read her book but she's relatively famous/successful at the mo.

PolyesterBride · 24/09/2014 12:20

I think she'd be constantly asked wage her real name was

BlotOnTheLandscape · 24/09/2014 12:23

Ideal for a child with a sibling called Mork.....

BarryGoosey · 24/09/2014 12:40

Love Mindy Kaling! I like it. Children now are unlikely to make the mork and mindy connection.

I don't see how it's any more "twee" than molly, tilly, milly, maisie etc.

AlmaMartyr · 24/09/2014 12:47

I like it, I immediately thought of Mindy Kaling and I love her. No kids will make the Mork and Mindy connection and it's not really a bad connection anyway.

Vintagejazz · 24/09/2014 13:53

I don't like it at all. It sounds like a made up American name. Names like Molly and Milly have a history to them and started out as nicknames for 'real' names like Margaret and Millicent.

Vintagejazz · 24/09/2014 13:54

And I agree with Squoosh. It does sound like a cheerleader in a film name. Or someone with big hair on Murder she Wrote.

babyblabber · 24/09/2014 14:06

I like it. defo more likely to be associated with Mindy Kaling than Mork and Mindy and she's pretty cool. like a nicer version of mandy

SpaghettiTowers · 24/09/2014 21:55

Mork.

No.

emsyj · 24/09/2014 21:56

I know one. She is very cool with uber-cool parents.

TsukuruTazaki · 25/09/2014 01:29

Mindy kaling!

Tbh I don't like the name as sounds a bit insubstantial and ditzy but kaling is a good namesake.

Surfsup1 · 25/09/2014 06:30

As a nn maybe. Probably too cutsie sounding even as a nn for me.

temporarilyjerry · 25/09/2014 06:34

I knew one of these when DD was born. She is 11 yo.

I like it short for Miranda.

LucasNorthCanSpookMeAnytime · 25/09/2014 06:41

Cute on a toddler but you won't take seriously an adult with that name. Prime Minister Mindy? Nah.

I don't like Mindy, but I kind of like Minty.

awesomedog · 25/09/2014 19:33

It's a nice name for a small dog? Maybe a Jack Russell? Not keen on it for a baby?

burgatroyd · 25/09/2014 20:37

I like it. Simple and sweet.
