I think we're going back to the drawing board on boy names. Please suggest ones that are cool but won't get him made fun of!

A friend has a Cosmo and a Gabriel

ErrolTheDragon · 18/09/2014 23:11

A lot of these names really aren't cool, they're too obviously trying to be cool.

BikeRunSki · 18/09/2014 23:12

Amos

baskingseals · 19/09/2014 06:51

Jem, could be short for Jeremy. I think it is the ultimate cool name.

Great names on this thread!

I know cool boys named
Dexter
Quentin
Casper
Rory
Sonny

dreamcometrue · 19/09/2014 15:22

Can't believe our lo's name is on here.

As a teacher the boys who are cool are called Rory, tuncell, Jay, Seb, jack. One of the other poster said the right thing that they make there names cool not the other way round.

noitsachicken · 19/09/2014 16:41

I love these names!
I have a Max and if DC2 is a boy he will be Xander.
Also love, Austin, Dexter, Kit and Felix.

OscarWinningActress · 19/09/2014 16:52

The coolest little boy name I've heard recently is BASIL. His parents (hipsters) call him Baz for short.

Interestingly, if you asked actual small boys, I bet you'd get different answers. I have nine and seven year-old DSs who are currently obsessed with pretending to be SWAT team members...when they play they change their names to 'Nick and Justin' Hmm...

MerryMarigold · 19/09/2014 16:55

Cool names imo (mostly on this list):

Dexter
Tom
Jude
Art
Seb
Bart

MerryMarigold · 19/09/2014 16:56

Grin at Baz. How about Barry?

fuzzpig · 19/09/2014 16:59

I love Ezra, Felix, Josiah, Silas and Elias

LynetteScavo · 19/09/2014 17:03

Elvis

Johnny

Bertie

Digby

Gus

MerryMarigold · 19/09/2014 17:11

I forgot Otis. I love than but dh was no. Also Xavier.

LetticeKnollys · 19/09/2014 17:33

Some of the names on here are really straying away from 'cool' IMO. Quentin and Josiah, 'cool' names? Really? They sound like choir boys. Others sound like the kid with hippy parents who gets picked on for his dodgy hair cut and vegan lunchboxes, or candidates for C4's Child Genius.

Cool names for a kids peers are usually short and snappy and not too weird, like Jack, Zach, Max, Seb, Tom etc. but parents shy away from them because they don't sound interesting or unique enough.

LynetteScavo · 19/09/2014 18:18

But parents don't shy away from Jack, Zach, Max, Seb, Tom etc; there are usually at least one, if not two or three in each class. Or maybe that's just where I live.

MerryMarigold · 19/09/2014 18:18

Xavi is uber cool amongst small boys - such a football name.

Maybe Lionel is about to get cool amongst boys too Wink

LetticeKnollys · 19/09/2014 18:53

Okay okay, I will change that to MN mums! Not that we are a stereotype or anything. Grin

Florrieboo · 20/09/2014 06:47

My son has the following "cool" boys in his year:
Tiger
Jett
Rafi
Levi
Zeke
and then my other son is called Saul which seems to be universally considered cool whenever he introduces himself and they don't think he is saying Sean!

Asleeponasunbeam · 20/09/2014 07:02

The kids don't know what's 'cool' or what's not! Get a group of 3,4,5 year olds together and they have no idea - they're just names to them. If they've never met an 'Adam' or a 'Tom', then they're cool and unusual. Likewise, they don't consider 'Bartholomew' or 'Ptolomy' or 'Laertes' to be different. It's only if they pick up such idiotic ideas from their parents.

hellokitty123 · 20/09/2014 07:02

Lettice, name perceptions change over time and it takes just one cool Josiah for people to find the name cool!

Lots of names on this thread used to be 'old fashioned' but are becoming more popular - this also changes peoples' perceptions.

Perhaps it depends on where you are, but here in London I know very cool kids called Cassius, Quentin, Milo, Ferdie and even Jeremy!

moxon · 20/09/2014 07:36

Good grief: it's a tsunami of Dexter's! Hmm
I like Jack. I've only ever known cool Jack's. Active and kind and fun friend of all!
Or you could try Soren...? With or without the diacritical on top the 'o'.

HalleLouja · 20/09/2014 08:26

Luca
Alex
Theo
Max
Tom

alliemarg · 20/09/2014 13:46
