Annie or Kate

Im 5 days overdue and till a couple of days ago we had been planning to call the baby Annika (i love, dh doesnt) Annie for short (dh loves, im fine with it). But suddenly we are thinking of Kate. What do you think. Is Kate a nice name? I don't think it's common these days. Middle name would be Alice after both our grannies.

Kate.

My DD has the MN Alice, and when I fell pg this time around Kate was on the very short list. Im having a boy so cant use it, but I love it.

Kate Alice Surname is really nice.

Bowlersarm · 05/09/2014 17:22

Kate

(Although I prefer Anna to any of them)

Augustwedding · 05/09/2014 17:23

Kate, beautiful name. If we have a daughter she'd be Kate Elizabeth rose.

WhispersOfWickedness · 05/09/2014 17:24

I am a Kate, and love my name, if that helps Grin

RobinSparkles · 05/09/2014 17:28

Kate

I prefer Anna to Annie. I don't like Annika. I love Anna though.

Mrsgrumble · 05/09/2014 17:32

I love Anna. I think that would be a great compromise.

Otherwise Kate is great. Of I was going for Annie, I would have Ann on the birth set as I feel Annie is a bit nicknamey IMO (bit lovely, also )

Mrsgrumble · 05/09/2014 17:32

Cert

ralinax294 · 05/09/2014 17:38

I prefer Annie.

furcoatbigknickers · 05/09/2014 17:39

Annie. Kate's nice but loads of Katies.

Shockers · 05/09/2014 17:40

Kate.

I have a Kate, so I'm slightly biased.

KoalaDownUnder · 05/09/2014 17:41

I prefer Annika or Anna or Annie.

Kate is a bit boring.

F0ssil · 05/09/2014 17:41

Annie

Kate is just a bit blah

Daisybelle6 · 05/09/2014 19:15

I hate to be a party-pooper, and Annie is a lovely name, but... I have that sound in my name and unfortunately, some bright sparks at secondary school swapped the first letter for an F and began calling me Fanny Annie or Fanny-the-rest-of-my-actual-name Hmm. It does get annoying after a while, therefore I think that Kate is the safest option. Smile

Montsti · 05/09/2014 19:20

I prefer Kate to Annika nn. Annie, but I know loads of Kates/Katies so if popularity is a problem then I wouldn't go for it.

Fwiw I love Annabel nn. Anna.

squoosh · 05/09/2014 19:20

Kate.

Annie is twee.

looki · 05/09/2014 23:05

I like both of them but prefer Annie.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 05/09/2014 23:10

My dd is Katie short for Katherine. There are surprisingly few of them about at the moment.

Sophronia · 06/09/2014 02:07

I like both but prefer Annika nn Annie.

devoncreamtea · 06/09/2014 08:52

Kate. I am a Kate and I really like it! Although, also love Annie - (unhelpful!) both lovely names though.

devoncreamtea · 06/09/2014 08:56

Just as an aside - I would go for 'just' Kate rather than Katie (Katie is just a bit too twee and fancy, whereas Kate is quite a soft sound but a strong name IMO).

Kittykatmacbill · 06/09/2014 17:49

Dd is an Annie! Everyone has been really positive about it. Not keen on an Annika (think it sounds really dated and there is a horrid toddler I come across sometimes). Anna is also nice, but super safe.

I am a Katie, it's fine but there are always millions of us and it's a bit dull.

YorkshireTeaGold · 06/09/2014 17:57

I have an Annie (shortened from a longer name) and I really like it, dh and I argued for ages and it wasn't my first choice but I love it now.

We did consider Kate as it's a lovely name but it's a bit dull imo and the Middleton connection not my bag.

So Annie!

Lunastarfish · 06/09/2014 22:44

Prefer Kate but prefer it as a nn for Kathryn/Katherine/Catherine etc!

Blondieminx · 06/09/2014 23:00

Kate, by a mile!

My DSister is Alice Kate btw! Smile

I went overdue with my DD, I hope yours doesn't keep you waiting too much longer! Good luck Thanks

NadiaWadia · 06/09/2014 23:22

Annika is lovely and much more unusual. Annie is cute. I am a big fan of 'Anna'- names!

Katharine/Catherine (or another of the many spellings) is nice too though and very classic. There's Caitlyn as well of course and Katrina etc, etc. I would put one of these on the birth certificate rather than just Kate, which is fine but IMO a bit short and nicknamey for a stand-alone name.
