Is the name Sadie really popular?

Exactly that really! Its our favourite girls name so far with some time left to go. I know of one but don't actually know any despite having two children, both in school and we've never met one in baby groups or anything.
I've got an Isla and it's sooooo popular, there's always one wherever we go so I want to avoid that happening again if I can help it.
My second favourite is Elsie but I've heard of a few recently so I think that's on the up too.
Thanks! Xx

Only 2 friends who don't know each other and live at opposite ends of the country. It suits both girls more than I thought when they were born.

NovemberRainbow · 05/09/2014 11:34

I know of one Sadie born recently.
I think Elsie/Elsa is much more popular atm, especially because of the Frozen film.

BlueStarsAtNight · 05/09/2014 14:28

I don't know or know of any Sadie's. I know a couple of Elsie's though.

snickers251 · 05/09/2014 14:30

I have a Sadie 18mo, she was named after my great aunt but have yet to meet another one Smile

Passthebiscuitspls · 05/09/2014 14:43

Oh that's good news! I thought it might be creeping up to 'Isla' popularity but it seems not. That makes me love it a bit more!

Thanks for your help! Now I need to find a middle name that goes.

I know 3 Sadie's at dd's school

florascotia · 05/09/2014 15:23

In 2013 in England and Wales:
Isla = no 5; Elsie = no 47; Sadie = 148; Elsa = 183

Go for it OP, it goes nicely with sisters name.

Any family names you could use for a middle name?

TweeAintMee · 05/09/2014 15:27

It was very popular in the 1970s.

Droflove · 05/09/2014 17:09

Sadie is traditionally the nickname for Sarah. I'm not sure if most people know that. It's pretty popular these days. I know a few.

ralinax294 · 05/09/2014 17:39

I only know one Sadie and she's 15. Elsie is much more popular and nowhere near as nice as Sadie.

Nusalembongan · 05/09/2014 17:42

Lovely name and I don't know any. Only Sadie Frost springs to mind and hardly a bad thing.

JammyTodger · 05/09/2014 17:46

I don't think I've ever come across a single Sadie in nearly 20 years teaching. I don't know of any 'new' ones either. I know a couple but they're ancient my age. It's a really pretty name - use it!

weebarra · 05/09/2014 17:48

I know one who is 60 and one who is 5!

treaclesoda · 05/09/2014 17:49

It's got sporting celebrity endorsement - Brian O'Driscoll's daughter is called Sadie.

I think it's lovely Smile

MrsLettuce · 05/09/2014 17:49

Sadie is a nice name. Unfortunately I always think 'Sadie the sadist' which is annoying. Not something children are likely to come up with though Smile

treaclesoda · 05/09/2014 17:50

The sporting celebrity endorsement comment was a bit tongue in cheek btw, I'm not actually suggesting a name is 'better' because a rugby player likes it!

Passthebiscuitspls · 05/09/2014 19:38

Thanks everyone! I'm so pleased it's actually not that popular. Thanks for the stats Flora

Yes I agree Sadie is nicer than Elsie too. The popularity thing def puts me off now because one of mine is so bloody popular! My first has quite an unpopular name which is lovely.

November we haven't got any family names to use for a girl I'm afraid. I'd love to honour my gran but I just can't use her name, it's not to my taste at all! A def middle name for a boy that's my dad's name which is lovely.

Sadie is now firmly at the top of our list! It goes well with the other two and nicely with our surname which is a miracle in itself! ;)

I'm surprised it's making it's way up the charts because I know squillions of under fives and have never met one in the North West. I really, really like it. Simple yet sassy.

wigglesrock · 05/09/2014 21:06

It's lovely, it's dd2s middle name (her great granny was Sarah but was known as Sadie), sometimes I think should have gone with it as a first name but not really sure my mil could have said it without spitting, it was her mils name Smile.

myrtleWilson · 06/09/2014 08:49

Unsurprisingly I love it as I have an 11yr old Sadie! I've met probably 4 others since having her but I was surprised to see it had started to rise up the rankings a bit

Passthebiscuitspls · 06/09/2014 10:19

Yes, I saw it creep into one websites top 100 and I panicked! Like I say though we know lots of children and haven't come across one, just know of one through a friend.

Any ideas on a middle name that flows? Not the typical ones I.e. Rose, Grace etc

turdfairynomore · 06/09/2014 14:50

I know a Sadie Rebecca and a Sadie Isobel.

Beautifullymixed · 06/09/2014 16:32

I have a ten year old neighbour called Sadie.
And a new week old neice called Sadie.
A mum at my ds school is considering calling her unborn baby.......yes, Sadie.
All in London. Smile

myrtleWilson · 06/09/2014 21:11

Sorry pass we went for a rose variation for middle name!
