I need help before I end up being deported for irrational pregnant rage against DP.

I'm English, he's Mexican so we're looking for a name that can be used and pronounced easily in both countries. All my suggestions, like Eva, Ana, Sofia, are either too popular or 'for really old señoras'. On the other hand, he's coming out with such classics as 'Brenda' and 'Ethel' and even 'Fanny'.

I don't really care about popularity, although I don't really want to have a name that I associate with my great great grandmother. (see Ethel). Can anyone help us?!

Interesting you mention Brenda. I have a colleague with a Spanish wife and he told me they had picked Brenda as girl's name. I assumed he was joking ( the jokey type) but turns out not so I think I offended him a bit! They had a boy though.

My lovely friend had a baby with a Mexican guy and he wanted to call their poor DS Cypriano.... Hmm

middleaged I love Pilar too! So earthy and mysterious!

Meritxell?

burgatroyd · 31/07/2014 06:48

Also the name Brenda is lovely!

Luisa
Clara
Martha
Emilia
Camilla
Carolina

But also names like Evelyn, Emily and Naomi seem popular in Mexico too, so maybe you do not need to limit yourself to a name ending in 'a'.

Salvadora, shortened to Dora?

I live in Italy and I think that old fashioned English names are quite on trend here, just sound a bit weird for little girls to me.
They use name here like;
Rita
Silvia
Brenda
Veronica
Patricia
Linda
Deborah
Camilla

Maybe these aren't your cup of tea.... More your DP's.

What about;
Francesca
Giulia (Julia)
Chiara (kiara)
Giorgia
Viola
Beatrice
Sophia

I know these are Italian names but maybe they could work well in Spanish, or not?

Eulalia nn Laia
Berta so cute IMO and Marta
Nuria? Mireia? Mar?
Most floral names would work eg Azalia, Rosalia, Camelia, Liliana etc

Rocío and Carmen are my two favourite Spanish girls' names. Not sure how in/out of fashion they are these days though...
