Sophia Alice's sister would be...

Annabel Florence
Isabella Florence
Olivia Florence

(Or, poss Beatrice instead for the MN). Concerns are:-

Isabella - is it a bit too long, flowery and "try-hard";
Olivia - is it too similar to Sophia and therefore a bit of a twee sib-set?
Annabel - doesn't have the same gravitas as the other traditional names? i.e could you imagine a High Court Judge called Annabel?

I suppose what I want is a name that would not look out of place amongst the Telegraph birth announcements haha!

Thanks in advance for opinions.

Think Isabella is way too popular. Olivia is a bit obvious as a sister to Sophia IYSWIM. I'd go Annabel, think it's the least faddy and I can imagine a judge called Annabel for sure!! And also a fashion designer, admin lady, teacher etc...

Allalonenow · 25/07/2014 13:48

Olivia Florence, because Isabella is so very popular just now, and Annabel though pretty also has all the same possible Bel Bella etc type of nn.

Have you thought of using Florence as the first name?

Franglais80 · 25/07/2014 13:55

Yes I see your point about Isabella (though I only know of one but I know LOADS of Isabels/Isabelles around here!) Annabel is DH's fave by a long way and we would prob nn her Bells/Bel/Anna. I don't like Florence enough to be her first name and I know one at playgroup which puts me off!

Violet? I love all your names, I have one from your list.

Isabella, Florence and Annabel are all long names so what about putting one with a shorter middle name like Iris, Ivy, Pearl, Fleur, Flora...

momb · 25/07/2014 14:09

It's the Florence that's the problem.
Any of your suggestions woudl be lovely with something classic and simple like Jane, for example.

Yorkshirelassreturns · 25/07/2014 14:11

This is an easy one as my daughter is Annabelle Beatrice and I think it's lovely!! I think it's a name that gives you good nn potential - Anna/Belle. Beatrice is a family name on both sides and I love it. All of your other names (including your dd1's names were on our list so we must have very similar taste. I absolutely think the name stands up to the high court judge test. Good luck with whatever you decide. I love all of your other combinations by the way- I'm just biased! X

I thought Grace too!

I'd go for Annabel as I like Anna and Annie as well as Bella

Superrhan · 25/07/2014 14:13

Annabel Florence definitely. I can very much imagine a high court judge called Annabel. I think it's still quite classic but unusual and pretty.

PecanNut · 25/07/2014 14:32

Another vote for Annabel Florence.

Isabella and variants have been overused recently (as is Grace)

IvyBeagle · 25/07/2014 14:32

Emily Beatrice
Elodie Beatrice
Anabel Beatrice

florascotia · 25/07/2014 15:01

If it helps - in 2012, for England and Wales, out of the top 100 girls names:

Olivia was no 2 (4585 babies)
Isabella no 10 (3358 babies)
Isabelle no 17 (2594 babies)
Annabelle (that spelling) no 72 (884 babies)

Legionofboom · 25/07/2014 15:11

And another vote for Annabel (or Annabelle). (Interestingly, to me Annabel has more gravitas than the other names on your list but of course these things are quite subjective).

Annabel Beatrice would be my pick.

IvyBeagle · 25/07/2014 15:19

*Annabel (missed an n)

Franglais80 · 25/07/2014 17:14

Just to check, "Annabel" is the traditional English spelling isn't it? Or so I believe? I don't like funky spellings, I like the "proper" name if that makes sense...

Thanks for all the replies so far, interesting to read people's opinions! Just to add, Annabel Florence is DH's fave too.

wigglesrock · 25/07/2014 19:56

I have a Sofia, her two sisters are Olivia and Anna Smile

Sofia is the eldest, other names I considered for my daughters were : Tess, Cara, Elena, Juliet, Claudia.

Solasum · 25/07/2014 19:59

Isobel Beatrice

I would try to avoid 2 names ending in a

Mashedupbanana · 25/07/2014 20:48

Florence Isabelle

funnyoldonion · 25/07/2014 20:58

My favourite is Annabel but I prefer it spelt Annabelle. It sounds lovely with both Florence and Beatrice :)

florascotia · 26/07/2014 20:12

OP Annabel was indeed the original spelling - possibly first used in Scotland:

babyblabber · 27/07/2014 12:38

I have a Sophia, see my thread re names (sibling for Sophia and noah)

my favourite at the moment is Annabel but DH not keen. We both like Rebecca but I think it might be a bit boring.

I love Olivia but can't use it.

Sophronia · 28/07/2014 02:11

Olivia Florence.
