Basically that....

Is it:
Low-ki (long first syllable)
Lo-ki (short first syllable)

Thanks! Smile

I'm agreeing with the Low-key brigade.

And if I remember my Norse mythology, he wasn't nice.

ThursdayLast · 15/07/2014 18:54

I watched Thor last night Grin
Please please please don't name a baby Low-key

weatherall · 15/07/2014 19:10

It's not a good name.

Please think very very hard about this, before you saddle your poor child with a name like that; it says "parents desperate to be different but just making themselves look stupid". Plus, your poor child will never ever forgive you.

Do you actually know anything about Loki, I mean, not something culled from a film?

FreeWee · 15/07/2014 19:26

It's pronounced the same as Lachie (short for Lachlan) surely? Can park mummy's tell the difference between a Loki and Lachie??

PunkyPod · 15/07/2014 19:27

Thanks. As I said, purely asking for help with the pronunciation.

OP Very glad you're just asking. In the myths, Loki was deceitful, spiteful, malevolent, murderous. He destroyed good and beauty. He delighted in evil. Really, really not a nice name for a child - and (sorry) terribly 'try-hard but ignorant', too.

ChittinIt · 15/07/2014 19:30

Huge avengers fan. Do it! Awesome name.

runningonwillpower · 15/07/2014 19:34

*Thanks for the input and pronunciation help.

Was just asking.*

I'm not sure if I missed something but nowhere did I see that you were thinking of this as your baby's name.

I read it as 'just asking'.

PunkyPod · 15/07/2014 19:47

Indeed you are right Running. Browsing boys names and came across it. Not heard it before so want to know how to say it in my head. Am fully aware of the associations. I like the sound of it so am on the hunt for something similar.

Titsalinabumsquash · 15/07/2014 19:49

Thor Grin

runningonwillpower · 15/07/2014 19:57

PunkyPod - can't think of something similar. I've racked my brain.

But I do like Louis. Starts with an "L" and ends with an "i" sound and is much softer.

fanjodisfunction · 15/07/2014 19:57

Short first syllable lo-kee

I like it and even though in norse myth he is a trickster that doesnt mean a bad chsracter, norse mythology is a bit complex when it comes to good and bad.

fanjodisfunction · 15/07/2014 20:01

Oh and lachie is pronounced lockie, totally different to loki.

thatstoast · 15/07/2014 20:04

What about Logan? Just browsing my list and 47 boys were called Loki in 2012. Only 13 Thors though.

trinitybleu · 15/07/2014 20:07

I know of a Loki ...

nigerdelta · 15/07/2014 20:09

Low-key.
I have one, well, not really, but I call him Loki in my head. Never happier except when sowing discord.

NorksEnormous · 15/07/2014 20:15

Like croaky, but Loki...

sleepyhead · 15/07/2014 20:26

Or you could just call the child Satan, after all if you know your Milton the whole good/evil thing is a bit ambiguous.. Hmm

PunkyPod · 15/07/2014 20:30

Sleepy...thanks for your lovely thoughts.

WetAugust · 15/07/2014 20:57

That's my rabbit's name. It's pronounced Low-Key.

florascotia · 15/07/2014 21:09

As previous poster suggested: Scottish Gaelic Lachlan pronounced Loch-lann. The Scottish ch (as in loch) in the middle is compulsory ...Grin
