I don't normally go 'oh nooooo!', but ...

... I just have at this birth announcement for a girl named:

Harlea-Rae.

I don't dislike it because of the hyphen (I just wanted to get that out there), but more for the mis-spelling of Harley. Which is a name I don't like anyway. And then it's hyphenated with Rae - nothing wrong with that, but it just doesn't sit well as Harlea-Rae, IMVHO. It's twee and ... just nah.

I had to share as there's no way I'm saying anything IRL.

I know someone that called their son Crimea! Confused

KoalaDownUnder · 10/07/2014 11:44

Ugh, yeah...that's terrible.

Crimea is hilarious!

Molotov · 10/07/2014 11:46

I keep thinking of her little coat peg when she's at school andbit not looking right Confused

All these funky spellings are ridiculous! I know of another little girl whose middle name is Jai. They just don't look 'right'

Ha at Crimea river.

Germgirl · 10/07/2014 11:49

My friend's granddaughter is called Jersey-Rae, is that even a name?!

Molotov · 10/07/2014 11:55

Harlea/Dairylea. That's what I've visually connected it to in my mind's eye. That's just hit me.

Jersey-Rae?

Germgirl · 10/07/2014 11:56

Splendid isn't it?

Molotov · 10/07/2014 11:57

I think the names mentioned so far could be very difficult to carry off.

I like Harley. Not sure if the spelling Harlea is an alternative or not. Rae is okay I think.

It's not really a name that would make me gasp in horror or anything, I think it's relatively normal.

MummyBeerest · 10/07/2014 12:08

I know a woman who has a Braelynn.

I know there are worse things in the world, but Braelynn?

Thurlow · 10/07/2014 12:08

When I read that, I read it in my head as "Harr-lee-ah".

AuntieStella · 10/07/2014 12:08

If it is pronounced as I would expect it to be, I would hear it as Harley Ray (and assume that was Ray who rode a particular type of motorcycle). Some names are tricky to double-barrel.

HaveToWearHeels · 10/07/2014 12:16

I did the same a while ago with a friends "Cydnee-Rae" !

Sophronia · 10/07/2014 12:19

I know someone who has a son Harley-Ray.

TessOfTheFurbyvilles · 10/07/2014 12:21

There's a Harli-Rae at DS2's school.

And a Deztinee-Rae.

This is in the States.

Amrapaali · 10/07/2014 12:22

Jai is an Indian name. It means victory or success.

OwlCapone · 10/07/2014 12:23
picnicbasketcase · 10/07/2014 12:26

I don't think it's that dreadful. I've heard plenty worse, including some on this board.

ClashCityRocker · 10/07/2014 12:27

Deztinee-Rae???

Well....she's never going to be a solicitor is she???

Itsfab · 10/07/2014 12:28

Try hard. Looks silly. Makes the parents look silly.

Marvin and Rochelle have given their daughter a ridiculous name imo.

JellyBeansHaveNoAgeLimit · 10/07/2014 12:39

Itsfab, what did they name her? Just learnt that lil Kim called her daughter Royal-Reign Hmm

Not a fan of Harley but to double barrel it just makes it worse.

IHeartKingThistle · 10/07/2014 12:40

I know a boy called Hendrix-Rae.

Germgirl · 10/07/2014 12:42

Jersey-Rae's sister is Cydnee-May. I shit you not.
What I don't understand is the Rae / May thing. Why not Rae & Mae or Ray & May?

Molotov · 10/07/2014 12:45

Ah yes, I am aware that Jai is an Indian name, and I know of a little girl name Jaiya whose family British Indians.

The little girl whose middle name is Jai are not Indian - of course, that doesn't mean anything: my own dds name is of Spanish origin and we have zero Hispanic heritage. But Jai was definitely spelled so in this case as a funky alternative, by the parents own volition.

I keep seeing Dairylea packages in my mind Confused
