I always imagine its Donna or Karan, I'd like to know too Burga

beatofthedrum · 11/07/2014 22:12

I don't mind my name, though hate the shortened version I grew up with.
I'd like to be called Clementine.
Though agree Stevie is COOL!

Theonlyoneiknow, I've started a thread in chat asking whether I'm too old to change my name. The general consensus so far is that I'm not, and that quite a few folk have done it! I think I'm going to go for it. Smile

Burgatroyd, I need to be friends with 'Evangeline Demi-Monde'! She sounds like my kind of girl. Grin

I have always used a different first name to that on my birth certificate and records. I use a name which is just one letter different but which is a proper distinctive and unusual name and is generally the only one in an organisation where I work etc. I have used a different name since I was six months old because my mother changed her mind but it has not been changed legally by deed poll. And...... It makes no odds to anyone!
It is recognised by my bank, employers, the taxman and my doctor and is on those records. The only authorities who insist on having my real name on my records have been the passport office and the NIC arm of HMRC.
Do it people..... Pick something you like and just do it!
If I had to have something else it would be my middle name Helena (ie pronounced Helana!) but I like my chosen name. #livingthedream lol!

InfiniteJest · 12/07/2014 14:43

Ivy. I think it's beautiful and interesting, but my own name is really common and boring. Just asked DH and he'd choose the name he already has - probably because it's very uncommon and interesting!

BestIsWest · 12/07/2014 15:04

I like my name, and it's been mentioned up thread along with several variations. If had to change it I'd be Margo (not Margot).

RobinSparkles · 12/07/2014 15:18

I don't like my name - it's a very 70s - 80s name.

If I could choose my own I would choose a more timeless classic like Kate or Emma. Something not too fancy or frilly but pretty.

VelvetEmbers · 12/07/2014 15:36

I've never liked my name but my taste in names runs to the frilly and I'm not a frilly sort of person. My DM liked names that couldn't be shortened, and doesn't believe in middle names. Which is why DD has 2 multi-syllable names Grin

weatherall · 12/07/2014 17:58

I hate my name.

I want to change it but can't pick an alternative.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'm 34 but look younger if that helps.

Flipflops7 · 12/07/2014 23:02

I like my name and it is one of the favoured ones here.

However I really wanted to be called Julia and would have used it somewhere for a dd. It's so elegant and classic.

At the moment I am also fond of Hadley, the name of Ernest Hemingway's wife. It just sounds so I-own-a-boat-ish. I would have crisp blonde hair and red lipstick to go with.

funnyoldonion · 13/07/2014 09:32

Interesting question!

I'd like to be called Alicia, Marin or Eliza or maybe Beth!

funnyoldonion · 13/07/2014 09:32

I also like my own name although it is more unusual

My RL name has been mentioned more than once! Which is pleasing as it's often on Names You Can't Stand thread. It's very seventies/eighties. I love it.

I would want something strong and/or unisex - Alexandra, Billie, Rose, Stevie

I wanted to be Evangeline when I was a teenager.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 13/07/2014 09:49

Just remembered I wanted to be Carlotta when I was in primary school. She was a fiery gypsy girl in the Famous Five.

She might have been! She showed up at school on her horse.
