I do not like my name - Julia. I think it's overused all over the world!!! Every nation has it's own variation of name Julia and they have millions of Julia's of all ages(( Right now I think i would change my name to Penelope) But i also like Eva/Ava/Eve a lot)

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 10/07/2014 19:27

Princess Consuela Banana Hammock. Wink

Cpt1sock · 10/07/2014 19:32

I like my name now and wouldn't change it, it was very unusual when I was little the only other person with my name in my home town was an old lady. It's one of the old lady names coming back in fashion.

If I could've changed it when I was at primary school I'd have picked Bernadette, I went to a strict catholic school, she was the coolest saint. Hahaha, so glad I only got to choose it for my confirmation name.

RabbitSaysWoof · 10/07/2014 22:59

Something unisex and not common.
I hate my overused name.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 10/07/2014 23:03

Marjorie

Anjou · 11/07/2014 00:04

I absolutely detest my name. I fantasise every day about changing it but - at 38 - I think I've left it far too late. I'd choose something distinctive & feminine: Amber, Esme, Kit/Kitty, Tabitha, Violet ... I think one of those.

It IS too late to change it, isn't it? Sad

2468Motorway · 11/07/2014 00:16

Def not too late to change. People will get used to it but you'd have to be patient while they adapt.

Go for it Anjou :)

I like my DDs name a lot. Mine is a two a penny seventies name. I also like Susannah which was mentioned upthread. Loads of great nicknames.

Anjou · 11/07/2014 00:26

Thanks 246! Smile Good to know at least 1 person wouldn't be fazed by it.

Redglitter · 11/07/2014 00:57

I'd be an Emily. I LOVE that name

MummyBeerest · 11/07/2014 01:00

Samantha. I don't know why...

Kaylo · 11/07/2014 01:07

Since watching breaking bad I've really liked the name Skylar...

However, I don't think I could carry that if. Hmmm. If I could choose my name I think I'd go for something like Anna. Mind you I like my name too...

burgatroyd · 11/07/2014 01:32

I wouldn't be fazed either Anjou. I know of one adult who changed her dreary name to something Gothic and fab! Think Lindsay Smith to Evangeline Demi-Monde She rocked her new name.

Anjou · 11/07/2014 04:51

Burgatroyd, that is AWESOME! Hmmm, maybe I should give it some serious thought ... I feel the need for a new thread!

stolemyusername · 11/07/2014 05:20

I'd pick Verity, wish I'd been able to use it for the dd's!

Theonlyoneiknow · 11/07/2014 08:48

I wouldn't change my name (thanks mum and dad)!

Anjou I don't think it's too late to change your name at all, you still have half your life left! If I really didn't like my name I would definitely change it! What names do you like?

Memphisbelly · 11/07/2014 08:54

I am also one that would love to be called Stevie, would love a daughter to be called it but dh says no as his best friend is Steve.

When I was younger I wanted to be Jade, I hated my own name growing up, started liking it them it got ruined by the Kardashians ao hate it again now.

burgatroyd · 11/07/2014 10:11

I like Stevie too, short for Stephanie which I also like!

Anjou, 'Evangeline demi-monde' worked at a very corporate company and dressed like an extra out of Penny Dreadful. I liked her style. She changed her name to something fabulous. So rethinking my post now... I'd go for Caraway or Penhaligan.

squoosh · 11/07/2014 11:01

Empress Zawatulu.

burgatroyd · 11/07/2014 11:32

I prefer Squoosh!

littlejohnnydory · 11/07/2014 14:08

Something more unusual. I always felt that my parents couldn't be arsed to think of an original name for me and just went with what everyone else used. My mum once said she "didn't want me to stand out", which I think is an awful thing to say about your child!

littlejohnnydory · 11/07/2014 14:10

I did actually change my name by deed poll, to the shortened name I've been known by all my life rather than its full version which just was never my name - I changed it so that I didn't have to have a name I felt no connection to used during my wedding ceremony. Maybe I should have gone the whole hog and picked a completely new name!

BiscuitBee · 11/07/2014 14:22

No "if" - I did! Changed my first name to one that was more fitting a few years ago, and this year DP and I changed our surnames so we matched :) I'm beginning to look dangerously like a deed poll enthusiast.

WhispersOfWickedness · 11/07/2014 15:10

My name has been mentioned a few times Grin

It is a good name and I wouldn't change it :)

Wetthemogwai · 11/07/2014 15:14

I quite like my name (been mentioned up thread) but would much rather be an Anna or a Helena (pron. Hel-ay-na). The practicalities of those names put me off though, I'd forever be called Ann or correcting people on the pronunciation of Helena!

My surname, however I HATE and have hated for as long as I can remember and a big part of me being keen to marry DP (who I also love very much!) is so I can get rid of this awful name!

SmiteYouWithThunderbolts · 11/07/2014 15:17

My mum changed her first name in her late forties from a fairly ordinary name to her chosen Druid name. I was a bit Hmm Confused at first, but it really suits her now!
