Prat keeps mispronouncing my dd's name

Dd2 (12 weeks) is called Emilia i.e em-ee-lee-ya. Had no problems with people's mispronunciation and have had lots of lovely comments about it. UNTIL, a mum of dd1's friend insists it's emma-lea. I've told her three flipping times and she's told me I'm wrong?!?!

She's thick. Ignore her.

thatstoast · 05/07/2014 08:31

The only mature thing to do is to start mispronouncing her name Grin

Mumof3xox · 05/07/2014 08:32

I second what thatstoast said!

scarletforya · 05/07/2014 08:32

She's trying to claim Emily is your daughters name when it's spelt Emilia........You can't reason with someone that stupid.

ophiotaurus · 05/07/2014 08:34

Just correct her every time she does it. Hopefully it will sink in...

thatwhichwecallarose · 05/07/2014 08:39

Accidentally doing it is annoying. Deliberately doing it and telling you you're wrong (which you're not but even if you were) is just rude.

I agree with mispronouncing her or her dc names!

Tea1Sugar · 05/07/2014 08:51

I would if her name wasn't a one syllable, eg Anne (but not). I'd come across as thick as two planks! Might try her kids though!

OP posts:
CalamitouslyWrong · 05/07/2014 09:03

Is it similar enough to Anne that you can pull an extra syllable out to mispronounce? Anne can so easily be mangled into Ann-ee or Ann-eh or even An-neh.

Similarly Jane could be Jah-neh or Jay-neh or Jah-nee or Jay-nee. The mangling possibilities are endless.

MsVenus · 05/07/2014 13:19

Mispronounce her name that will sort it out.

DitzyDonkey · 05/07/2014 15:25

It's such a common name you would think people would know how to pronounce it

MissYamabuki · 05/07/2014 15:30

What? she told you you're wrong? Shock

Does she think she's being funny, or clever? or is she really not very bright??

Thumbwitch · 05/07/2014 15:32

Arrogant twat she is. As if she knows better than you how to pronounce your own DD's name! Thick too.

People keep pronouncing DH's name wrong, but that's because it's more commonly used as a girl's name so they mis-hear it as a different name. Grin

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 05/07/2014 15:34

Ask her if she thinks Emilia Fox is wrong to use the same pronunciation as you.

Or tell her she is a) wrong, b) rude and c) needs to wind her neck in if she doesn't want to sound like a total fool!

RedToothBrush · 05/07/2014 15:54

Just tell her she's rude and whether she thinks its pronounced like that or not is completely irrelevant.

picnicbasketcase · 05/07/2014 15:58

So she pronounces it EM-ull-EE-ah? Nobody says it like that. Silly moo.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 05/07/2014 16:07

I think the OP said she pronounces it Emma - Leah (so actually Emily - Emma-Leah is the yoo-niq spelling of Emily, I believe).

picnicbasketcase · 05/07/2014 16:16

Ah, I didn't know if that was Leah pronounced like Lee, or with the 'uh' sound at the end Blush

MortaIWombat · 05/07/2014 17:29

So instead of putting the stress on the second syllable em-EE-lee-ah, she is stressing the first and third? EM-eh-LEE-ah?
Weirdo!

Patrickstarisabadbellend · 05/07/2014 17:35

Start calling her kid Dave. See how she likes it.

burgatroyd · 05/07/2014 19:07

According to baby centre poll, out of 82 votes....7 would prn as Amelia, 62 as you would prn and 13 are prat pronunciations.

Emilia Clarke and Emilia fox prn it the way you like. I'm so sad I just checked them introducing themselves on you tube!

MarianneBrandon · 05/07/2014 19:49

I would mispronounce her childs name. It might give her an idea of how annoying it is. It's rude of her to not pronounce it the way you do even if she does think it's the wrong way.

Tea1Sugar · 05/07/2014 19:52

Yeh basically she thinks dd is Emma-lee-ya. I won't stoop to her level, she's ugly so that'll do meGrin

OP posts:
AcrossthePond55 · 05/07/2014 19:53

I'd give her a piece of paper with the correct (your) pronunciation marked 'for future reference since you can't remember'. It doesn't matter if a parent names their child Mary and says it's pronounced 'Susan'. It's what the parents want, not what someone else may want or think is correct.

MissingMyMarbles · 06/07/2014 20:03

How rude! Agree with above, you could spell it Mary and pronounce it Susan, tis none of her business.

Is definitely go with mispronouncing her name Grin What is her name? I'm sure we could com up with some manglings to make the point. Cheeky mare!!

Leeds2 · 06/07/2014 21:25

Mispronounce her children's names. She will take the point.
