My OH has come up with this name...it has some significance, my beloved nans name, and due date happens to be her birthday, however I don't know if I like it or not...some days I think it's lovely other days I think eeurgh!

Not helped by the fact we have chosen an amazing boys name that I love, so don't want to have any regrets with girls name.

What do you think, and could you suggest any similar names? Please be gentle and kind, don't want to read any nasty responses, too emotional for that! Haha

Thanks for all your valuable input!!

I do like the name, and means a lot, but I am aware that the more miserable, judgemental family members may feel the need to comment (is it just my family???) and I don't want to ever feel like I have to justify our name choice...

Will leave as front runner for now and see what baby looks like! X

Keep the name secret until after the birth, people tend not to comment once the baby has arrived.

One of my ds' preschool teachers is called Jeanna which is quite pretty imo Smile

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 05/07/2014 10:43

You'll be totally ahead of the curve, it's a great name, due for revival. I have a lovely friend Jean in her mid-30s, she was the only one in our school :) She goes by Jeannie now, which is a great name.

HibiscusIsland · 05/07/2014 11:22

I love Jeannie and agree you would be ahead of the curve. my daughter is friends with a little girl in year 1 called Joan which is very sweet but has Mad Men chic for an adult.

HibiscusIsland · 05/07/2014 11:26

Joan from Mad Men

weatherall · 05/07/2014 11:30

Why not Kit for a girl too?

Or Jamie/jaime

AChildminder88 · 05/07/2014 11:38

Don't really like Jamie/Jaime at all.

Love kit- dislike kitty...if not a boy wouldn't consider using kit or variations...another girls we quite like is nancy.

Will just sit on it until baby arrives!

I really like it. Frilly sounding girls names are very over-used these days, and it's such a lovely strong girls name.

AndIFeedEmGunpowder · 05/07/2014 13:54

Like it. Becoming trendy in London atm.

BreeVDKamp · 05/07/2014 13:56

Really love it!

AChildminder88 · 05/07/2014 15:48

gunpowder is it? I'm in north London and haven't come across one yet!

Strangly encouraging to think I may be ahead of the trend! Hahaha

Similar to Jean

Jeanne
Eugenie
Jenna

I like Jean as a middle name like Norma Jean or Billie Jean, flows very well.

acrabadabra · 05/07/2014 20:15

My best friends name (who is still Jeanie to me Smile) and my sadly missed and wonderful mums name.
Dmum died 6 weeks after the birth of my daughter so we added as a middle name.

Two of the best people ever.

lifehasafunnywayofhelpinguout · 05/07/2014 20:41

Oh. I like it. I think you can be confident she will be the only Jean in her class. X

Provencalroseparadox · 05/07/2014 20:43

I like it. A lot.

Are 1950s starlet names on way back? DD has mn Marilyn after my DMum who died in 1988.

AndIFeedEmGunpowder · 06/07/2014 02:49

I have met two in the last year. One in E London and one in SE. So this isn't exactly a large scientific study! Both had hipster parents. Thought it was very cute actually.

I think you would be an early adopter. Grin

Truly awful.
Mean sounding and plain. Don't saddle a little girl with it.

AChildminder88 · 06/07/2014 18:20

Alright lucy don't hold back!

It is my dd's middle name and I am an absolute trend-setter in terms of baby names so I agree that you would be an early adopter if you went for it Grin.

I like it, obviously, but it is the family connections (both greatgrandmothers and one grandmother to my dd had/have this name) that made me choose it.

catwithflowers · 06/07/2014 18:24

Like Jean and love Jeannie

Mintyy · 06/07/2014 18:26

NickiFury - I'd just like to mention that I have noticed you post like a gossipy spiteful madam almost all the time. Before too long I'll be reporting you to HQ for your aggressive, brutish tone.

LucyStafford · 06/07/2014 18:37

Can't say I've noticed Nicki knocking about.
But I don't think HQ will care that she doesn't like the name Jean.

Mintyy · 06/07/2014 18:46

Of course not, Lucy.
