My OH has come up with this name...it has some significance, my beloved nans name, and due date happens to be her birthday, however I don't know if I like it or not...some days I think it's lovely other days I think eeurgh!

Not helped by the fact we have chosen an amazing boys name that I love, so don't want to have any regrets with girls name.

What do you think, and could you suggest any similar names? Please be gentle and kind, don't want to read any nasty responses, too emotional for that! Haha

Thanks rhubarbgarden (great name!) and others.

I do really like the name, just have an occasional wobble!! We have quite an unusual and long surname, so have found short sharp first names work best.

If it's a girl it will be Jean Rose F, and boy will be Kit James F___

Thank you Jean supporters for the reassurance!

I like it and I think it's going to have a revival in the next 10-15 years or so, you'll be ahead of the crowd!

Umbrellasandladders · 01/07/2014 19:30

I like it and agree I think it's due a revival! Go for it

ShoeWhore · 01/07/2014 19:34

I like it. I'd spell it Jean though - Jeanne is pronounced quite differently.

looki · 01/07/2014 19:44

It's awful.Im astonished at the number of positive comments it has received.

I really wouldn't like to be called Jean despite knowing at least three lovely Jeans in their late 30s. There isn't anything pretty, elegant or interesting about it. It hasn't had a revival for very good reasons!

But....., I'm a random stranger on the internet and if you like it then follow your intuition.

DramaAlpaca · 01/07/2014 19:46

I'm afraid I agree with looki, but it's not my decision of course.

On the other hand, Kit James for a boy is just lovely. Great name.

thegreylady · 01/07/2014 20:40

Love it and Jeanie is sweet for a little girl :)

CarriMarie · 01/07/2014 20:43

What about Rosanna Jean or Rosalie Jean.

AChildminder88 · 01/07/2014 20:44

looki and dramaalpaca yes realise it's not going to be everyone's tastes, including some of my family members- which is why I'm having a wobble about it, but hey ho that's life!

It fits my bill, I want something that isn't silly and prissy, and I like that it's a succinct name, especially as we have a long surname.

Very aware how some people make judgements based on names, and would hate to put my child through that...Confused

CarriMarie I love Rosalie, but hubby thinks it's a "prissy" name Hmm

I love it! Reminds me of X-Men Grin

gotagoldtoof · 04/07/2014 07:45

I love Jean. It's fab. Rose is a bit boring, though and Jean Rose sounds of a much older generation. I would have a more exciting middle name.

Branleuse · 04/07/2014 07:46

i love it

Blueberrybaby · 04/07/2014 07:55

Not keen. It reminds me of growing up in the 80s suburbia, where a lot of my friends had Mum's called Jean. They were lovely but it somehow just seems unremarkable and I don't see the elegance you see.

Iswallowedawatermelon · 04/07/2014 11:16

I like Jeanie as a nickname. Fits in well with current popular names but is still unusual choice.

AChildminder88 · 04/07/2014 15:26

Interesting point about Rose as a middle name...we like it, and we don't tend to use middle names ever, so a more out there name would be a waste, also we have a long unusual surname, so Jean Rose sounds beautiful to us!

Jeanie is fab

Gingerjv · 04/07/2014 16:30

I do not like this name much. too simple to my taste.

AChildminder88 · 04/07/2014 17:38

Hey ginger yes you're right, simple and succinct that's why we like it Smile

Fenton · 04/07/2014 17:43

I know two Jeans who are a obsolutely lovely, kind and warm women, both in their 70's - so it's high time it had a revival I think Smile

NickiFury · 04/07/2014 17:44

God no! All the Jeans I know are spiteful gossipy middle aged women.

Safeinourbubble · 04/07/2014 17:56

My Mum was a Jean and her mother was a Joan - both awesome women in their own rights. Joan of Arc? Pretty amazing, too. I would definitely have used it as a middle name if I had had a girl.

But the question is - do you like it? And don't forget, when your child is born - it will either fit or it won't.

And then, there is:

burgatroyd · 04/07/2014 20:10

I know a Jeanie and love her name. Think that's her BC name. My dd has a (ie) ending on a traditional name to make it more upbeat.

Watercolourfootballs · 04/07/2014 20:21

I like Jean (had a formiable relative with the name)

However as an alternative (if you're not sure ) Sheena is often considered alternative in Scotland.
