Boys and girls lists:

Not finding out the sex of bump so hoping for opinions on two lists please:

Girls:

Belle
April
May
Zelda
Maya/Maia
Destiny (worried this could be a bit of a marmite name)
Esmeralda, ( Possibly more a middle name)

Boys:

Deano
Zayden
Jay
Jamal, ( is this acceptable as we are both white British ?)
Zack

I realize a lot of these names are either "love or hate," so honestly won't be offended by honesty.

Barry is a fine Cork name! Not a thing wrong with it!

If you really don't like it though and particularly if grandad is Irish, you could always de-Anglicise his name, going with Fionbarr and shortening to Fionn for everyday use.

Or Finbarr shortened to Finn, but you seem to like less usual options.

Just to let everyone know we've decided on April Esmeralda for a girl, ( even though it will be born in August lol!) and Zayden/ Zaidon Barry Arnold for a boy, ( we have decided it would only befair to include my grandad's name as well, hence the Arnold,) do help us
decide on how best to spell Zayden.

Votes for:

  1. Zayden
  2. Zaidon
  3. Zadon

At the moment I prefer options 1 and 2

April Esmeralda is lovely.

From the 3 boys options, I'd choose Zayden. Think this spelling is the most intuitive. Could nickname Zane.

So would Zain Barry be a bit better, love Zadon, but I wouldn't want this reaction to my child's name everywhere i went lol

I only ask because MN is not necessarily representative of how everyone would react to your name choices.

If you like Zaydon so much, use it. It's not totally out there.

Zane Arnold Barry is the best combo IMO.

April is nice (but a bit odd in august!).

How about Avril? It's more of a name and less of a month (for an August baby).

I always liked Zinedine Zidane's name! I think if you really love it, Zayden is ok. You have been a good sport and sound like a very likeable person which will probably endear people to whichever name you choose.

But it's fine not to have names sorted this far in advance. You may wobble and change anyway. I had names sorted for my twins from about 4 months pregnant to 36 weeks (i had them at 37 weeks). Then major wobble and threw them out. They went nameless for a bit after they were born. I just can't imagine them with the original names I picked, to be honest.

Love this thread. Little to add, except that Zadon sounds like one of the Noble gases, and Zaidon would be forever having to spell his name out.

Irrelevant now, but using a name like Jamal when you are both white, could be setting your child up for a lifetime of having his job applications discarded at cv sifting stage, there are still a lot of ignorant racists out there.

I like April Esmeralda but I don't think Zaydon is even a name, it sounds like a comic book planet to me (and satan if said in a crap Spanish accent)

(Basically an especially evil version of that Shirley off Eastenders)

Just to say, despite being due on 2nd August, baby Zayna Maia made an early appearance yesterday. Felt right as soon as we saw her :) Thanks for all the help people
