Im searching mumsnet looking for a boys name that's unusual and appeals to me and im no coming back with a great deal, lots of girls names though!

Anyway me and OH both really like Rex, i think its going to be either marmite or ppl will just outright not like it, but i'm curious sooooooo do you hate it?

Im expecting lots of it sounds like a dogs name comments!

Bigbottomtwirl · 22/06/2014 16:08

I don't hate it but to me it sounds like an old mans name.

No much help sorry!

Midsummersolstice · 22/06/2014 16:10

Love it

Lesleythegiraffe · 22/06/2014 16:10

Sorry, sounds like a dog's name to me

MillyONaire · 22/06/2014 16:11

I love it and it was on the shortlist for my son (but DH would not agree unfortunately)
Remember your son will grow into it - and it into him so other peoples opinion don't really matter: if you like it go for it

DaisyBug1212 · 22/06/2014 16:18

50/50 so far! im surprised by the old mans name comment i cant picture that. Just me though!

I adore it, DH wont allow me to have it. I know an older man called Rex and he's hard working, funny and active. I don't know any little one's called Rex which is one of the reasons it appeals.

Leeds2 · 22/06/2014 16:32

My dog was called Rex, 40 years ago!

BumpNGrind · 22/06/2014 16:33

Just to add, Dexter nn Dex has been suggested to me as an alternative to Rex. As has Thomas Rex or T-Rex for short Hmm

Bunbaker · 22/06/2014 16:33

Sorry, but it sounds like a dog's name to me as well. Pity really because there is nothing wrong with the name.

Lighthousekeeping · 22/06/2014 16:37

I absutely adore it. I do think it is due to have bits moment though just like Noah, Frankie and Albie are now. I do love it. I like Felix too. Which is a cats name !

NoArmaniNoPunani · 22/06/2014 16:38

I love Rex, great name

newyearnewshoes · 22/06/2014 16:39

DaisyBug1212 · 22/06/2014 16:39

TreeMugger · 22/06/2014 16:40

DaisyBug1212 · 22/06/2014 16:40

TreeMugger · 22/06/2014 16:41

Also you could change the spelling to Wrecks during the toddler years ??

CoteDAzur · 22/06/2014 16:42

Rex is a dog. Or a dinosaur.

restandpeace · 22/06/2014 16:43

Hate it

Lighthousekeeping · 22/06/2014 16:51

I've seen three Max's in the past werk

Lighthousekeeping · 22/06/2014 16:52

What can you do though? Names become fashionable I don't think you can avoid it

DaisyBug1212 · 22/06/2014 17:00

this is true lighthusekeeping we have a DD called Tilly which was really rare at the time but is now quite popular

BalloonSlayer · 22/06/2014 17:02

I like it.

I know it is traditionally a dog's name but it's still nice.

I'm sure you know that it means King (hence Tyrannosaurus Rex).

Did you know . . . that Rex Harrison of My Fair Lady etc fame was rumoured to be the illegitimate son of George V

There is a likeness and it would explain the name . . .

But then again he probably got work and became famous because those sort of looks were fashionable. (He certainly couldn't sing)

DaisyBug1212 · 22/06/2014 17:06

oh thats interesting! yeah i did know that re Rex meaning king, i love the meaning!

squoosh · 22/06/2014 17:07

One of my very favourite boys names. Short, masculine, cool.

But yes, very much a marmite name. Ah well, the people who dislike it can only be pitied for their lack of taste. Wink

Angelto5 · 22/06/2014 17:20

Love it.
Dexter was mentioned in a PP & that was going to be the name of our last dc-dexter jack
but turned out to be a dd.
my mom was so glad because she didn't like dexter at all!
