Is it to be Willow?

Dd3 will arrive in ten days and Dh and I cannot agree on any other name.. We have picked loads individually and he thinks mine are silly while I think his are boring. I 'settled' on his choice last time and Willow is one of my choices he's willing to settle on this time.

He likes Rachel/Leah/Emma/Tara which seem a bit safe for me.
I like Rae/ Teddy/ Nell/ Nancy

Something strong yet calming about Willow that I like ( it's possible popularity is off putting..hoping it's not too trendy but not a name I'd regret at the same time)

I think we may be wasting our time even trying to come up with a second name ....
Any ideas?

I think Willow is lovely, how about Sienna?

I think both go well with your other girls.

Ludways · 24/05/2014 21:26

It's my SIL's cats name.

gertiegusset · 24/05/2014 21:28

It's my dog's name.

MuttonCadet · 24/05/2014 21:30

Who calls an animal willow???

It's a trees name Smile

gertiegusset · 24/05/2014 21:32

Yes, but you can't take a tree for a walk.

Pebbles0934 · 24/05/2014 21:32

I like Willow and don't think it's too popular? Not sure it fits with your other names though?!!

I like Nancy!

gertiegusset · 24/05/2014 21:56

I like Nancy too.

oohdaddypig · 24/05/2014 21:58

Nancy is nice but wasn't she the prostitute in Oliver Twist?

I like Willow. I like Rowan even more!

meran · 24/05/2014 22:01

Willow is lovely. It would put me off knowing it was the name of someones dog though.

WowserBowser · 24/05/2014 22:08

I love Willow. Ignore any pet comments!

OublietteBravo · 24/05/2014 22:18

I like Nancy (I also like Tara, but I think it is too similar to Cara). I think Rae works best with the names of your DC.

justhayley · 24/05/2014 22:31

I love the name Willow - don't at all see it as a let's name think it's love. It's on my list along with Phoebe Heidi and Daisy

gertiegusset · 24/05/2014 22:39

The dog got called Willow because she's a bit witchy looking with blue eyes, also we were going through a Buffy phase, the rabbit was called Spike. Grin

Mrspedro · 24/05/2014 22:52

Rowan is out ( our boy is Rean)

Do you think new dc's name really must blend with the others? I'm not sure I'm bothered about having a theme as such...

Yeah the animal thing doesn't bother me I have to say ( unless I knew the dog personally :) )

Dh's nephew has our dogs name ...it doesn't even occur to us anymore

Willow was on my list when expecting DD 12 years ago BUT -

  • turns out yo be a character from Buffy the Vampire Slayer
  • was the name of my very dirty postnatal ward
  • had some concerns about how it might feel for DD to bear that name if she turned out to be anything other than tall and slim
Marcipex · 24/05/2014 23:09

Willow is very trendy here, even a surprise boy was called it although he turned out not to be a girl after all.
What about Isla or Isis, both lovely with the names you have? Unless you are sure he/she will be willowy.

Suttonmum1 · 24/05/2014 23:13

Wait till she goes to school and all the classes are named after trees. She can be Willow in Willow class.

Choccyhobnob · 27/05/2014 10:46

I think Willow is lovely and goes with your DC's names. Don't be put off by people saying it's an animals name, my pets have always had human names! It's like someone saying they would uncomfortable naming their baby Thomas or Phoebe now that they know it's someone's (mine!) cats' names!

squoosh · 27/05/2014 13:12

I think Willow is lovely, I do like a nature name. And they're the most beautiful trees. A bit magical.

Wouldn't worry about the pet issue, all pets these days have human names. They're all called Lucy and Max and Charlie and Ruby. I even know cats called Dave and Derek.

burgatroyd · 27/05/2014 13:16

Love name but she might not be willowy

squoosh · 27/05/2014 13:25

Willows are quite rotund trees. I wonder why willowy means slender? The branches I suppose.

Is it to be Willow?
Solo · 27/05/2014 13:28

The real issue is definitely if she turns out completely un willowy. What about Willa instead? Goes better with your other Dcs names, plus it wouldnt be odd on a less than willowy child, AND it's not a well used name.

squoosh · 27/05/2014 13:34

Willa sounds a Glaswegian sounds saying 'willy'.

'Dae ya wanna see ma willa?'

Solo · 27/05/2014 13:36

Willow is more about the floaty leaf laden branches than the trunk I think.
