Is it to be Willow?

Dd3 will arrive in ten days and Dh and I cannot agree on any other name.. We have picked loads individually and he thinks mine are silly while I think his are boring. I 'settled' on his choice last time and Willow is one of my choices he's willing to settle on this time.

He likes Rachel/Leah/Emma/Tara which seem a bit safe for me.
I like Rae/ Teddy/ Nell/ Nancy

Something strong yet calming about Willow that I like ( it's possible popularity is off putting..hoping it's not too trendy but not a name I'd regret at the same time)

I think we may be wasting our time even trying to come up with a second name ....
Any ideas?

Squoosh that wouldnt be good if the Op is in Scotland I suppose!

StrawberryGashes · 27/05/2014 13:57

squoosh I've just said Willa about 8 times out loud and it doesn't sound like willy so the OP is safe.

My daughter's name is Willow, although she is a tiny little thing, very 'willowy'. She is the only Willow I know and even the registrar that registed her birth certificate had never heard the name used so it's not too popular up in Scotland.

All my pets have had human names too, don't let that put you off.

Strawberry my Dd is a Willow too and I have been told that she is the only child that person knows that completely suits her name. Tall and willowy. If Dd had been or becomes a chunky tomboy, it will so not be right for her...

WowserBowser · 27/05/2014 14:33

Yes please, Squoosh

squoosh · 27/05/2014 14:51

Give me a moment wowser, I'll have a rummage.

Guin1 · 27/05/2014 15:08

I don't think it matters about the pet name thing, and I don't see why the name has to fit with your other DC names. Although if you already have a Cara, then using Tara is definitely out! My DS is a Teddy, have never heard it used for a girl before.

Willow is lovely, but will be a source of giggles behind her back if she is not Willowy. If you use Willow as a first name then you should really give her a middle name that she can use instead if necessary. Or use Willow as the middle name and find another first name that you and your DH can agree on.

I think Willow is massively safer than Daisy or Grace. The ones I know are lovely girls, but they are tall, broad shouldered and sporty. Not flowery and graceful.

I think of Willow as a pretty, quite strong name. I don't think a Willow has to be dainty.

burgatroyd · 27/05/2014 15:33

Squoosh, I need to meet more Scottish men! That made me cough my tea up.

burgatroyd · 27/05/2014 15:36

And there's the whole weeping willow thing... I guess if she's a slender, dry eyed bairn then its a goer

Just putting it out there as a nature name with a w- what about Wren?

squoosh · 27/05/2014 15:47

Oh Wren is so pretty! I love one syllable names.

WowserBowser · 27/05/2014 15:49

I love Wren.

And Winter.

Allalonenow · 27/05/2014 15:53

I like Leah, please listen to your DH and name her that. Smile

burgatroyd · 27/05/2014 17:43

How about Waverley?

Willow is beautiful. I know 2 and both are lovely girls.I love Nancy too. It makes me think of Frank Sinatra's song for his daughter. "Nancy (with the laughing face)."

AMI88 · 27/05/2014 21:27

Love willow, and Nancy. I think they would both be lovely with your other names.

How about Willow Leah?

Dancealot · 27/05/2014 21:35

How about Raia- I've only ever met one and it combines Rae and Leah from your lists.

bunnysmummy · 27/05/2014 22:56

I think Willa is nicer, as in Willa Carther

Mrspedro · 31/05/2014 18:37

Ok really don't like Willa.
Needing to be willowy wouldn't be a concern for me tbh I just don't want it standing out like a sore thumb compared with our other names.

Love Willow but only works if she's likely to be tall and thin
