I'm a teacher and have children with a wide range of names at school but I think Destiny and Foreva are the worst. Anyone else come across any other Just No names?

It's not snobbery or anything like that which makes me dislike the name Babe. I just felt uncomfortable calling the child it, as it seems more like a term of endearment than a name, and I wasn't in a position where I should be using terms of endearment towards the kids! I also felt sorry for the child as people did comment on her name, or ask her what her "real" name was - and I can only imagine this will continue throughout her life. I can't imagine CLling my boss Babe, for example!

LynetteScavo · 27/04/2014 16:15

Not all top ten names were always in the top ten! Some were way down in the top 100 a few years ago!

My own name is now very popular, but I was teased at school for having weird name.

AntiDistinctlyMinty · 27/04/2014 16:18

Generally I think 'to each their own' about names, but we have one at work that I just makes me Hmm

Reinebeau - the poor girl will spend her whole life saying 'yes my name's rainbow. No you don't spell it that way'.

alex7149 · 27/04/2014 16:24

I think thats the bit thing Anti- I don't like seeing children with names that they will probably get bullied for, or that they are likely to be annoyed about when they are adults.

StoneFoxMama · 27/04/2014 17:07

I like Horatio and Memphis, I know a little one and he's gorgeous. His sister is Rafaella. There are tons of unusually named children around here ranging from 'oh that's a bit different' to completely bonkers so people are a bit more open to them and wouldn't bat an eyelid.

Personally I can't get het up about someone's choice to name their child.

Darmok · 27/04/2014 17:46

I quite like Destiny. Similar feel to Verity and co.

My sister has a Christ in her class which must be hard to live up to.

manicinsomniac · 27/04/2014 19:58

I really like unusual names (well, not all of them of course, but the majority). But then I'm obsessed by names in general and there aren't very many I really dislike.

I teach in a school where most of the names are pretty mainstream and the majority are probably top 50.

I obviously can't name the few exceptions in each year in a list here but it is refreshing and exciting to get something a bit different. A couple of examples from a few years ago - Asthina, Gavin and Chantelle - one I'd never heard before and two that seemed so out of place among that generation. None of those three names are to my particular taste but I liked that they belonged to that child and that child only.

JumpingJackSprat · 27/04/2014 20:45

I knew I'd get a reaction. Top ten names are exceedingly dull. I know this thread is meant to sneer at "names we mumsnetters would never call our children such as destiny and chardonnay". But personally I'd never use Charlotte or chloe because they do indicate a lack of imagination. Sorry I'm not following the correct etiquette and declaring how much I despise those awful lower class names because hey, at least they're different.

SirChenjin · 27/04/2014 20:56

Yeah, Jack is really boring.

Pebbles0934 · 27/04/2014 20:57

Kiarno is probably the only name I've heard which I thought ooooh

pictish · 27/04/2014 21:15

Reinebeau - poor lassie. Grin

Kaekae · 27/04/2014 21:19

I know someone who recently called their baby Doris which I just thought no!!!

BatWings · 27/04/2014 21:25

There is a Rancha at SIL's school...

honeybeeridiculous · 27/04/2014 21:27

Armani rose and Koko channel, (that's how it was spelt)! twins I encountered on the maternity ward where I work Hmm

Jumblebee · 27/04/2014 21:30

I love the name Jack, I think it's a good, strong name. But then again DD has a very traditional name. I don't lack creativity, I just love the name. Each to their own, really!

spanky2 · 27/04/2014 21:32

I joked about Jack Daniel and Tia Maria! Please tell me someone really has named their dcs that!

honeybeeridiculous · 27/04/2014 21:35

Just thought of another, baby girl named Minnie, surname was cooper Grin quite sweet I suppose considering some of the others

RabbitSaysWoof · 27/04/2014 21:37

Some people hate my ds name.
I read on here recently that it is a twatish name.
Do I care what random internet strangers think? I'm glad its not in the top 100.

SirChenjin · 27/04/2014 22:05

Jumble - the name Jack is lovely, but Jack is boring Wink

OscarWinningActress · 27/04/2014 22:17

At my children's school there is a Boden. We're not in the UK so they probably have no idea but I cringe every time I hear it yelled across the playground. I also just met a Talon and when my daughter was younger there was a baby called Braxton in our Moms and Tots group Confused.

HenI5 · 27/04/2014 23:12

Our cat's 15 this year and his middle name's Horatio.
He's obviously a non-trend setter.

Ziggyzoom · 27/04/2014 23:16

I encountered a Reanon at work last week!

amy83firsttimer · 28/04/2014 09:39

I opened a bank account for a Kia (baby girl), middle name Sorrento. If you know your shit cars you'll know why that's a crap idea.

Jumblebee · 28/04/2014 14:27

Sir chenjin, I do have a fondness for boring names Smile

(Plus I knew a really good looking, charming man called Jack, so it has helped my opinion of the name Wink)

jnl0612 · 28/04/2014 16:08

I quite like Braxton, 'twas on my "like" pile for DC3 my other two have just normal names.
