Emiliana, Beatrice or Annabelle.

Just found out we're having dd2 (already have DS and dd1).

What do you think of the following:

Emiliana (nn. Emmy)
Beatrice (nn. Bea or Bebe)
Annabel/Annabelle (nn. Anna)

I cannot have Amelia/Emilia or Arabella/Annabella/Isabella/Isabelle, Charlotte, Olivia, Genevieve.

DH will let me choose but he has said he likes Emily...I like it but don't love it and know quite a few. I am a bit meh about Annabel and don't love Anna and can't use Belle as a nn....

Please rate names and also let me know if you can think of any other options.

Thanks!

Beatrice.

Annabelle and Emiliana are far too frilly.

Bonsoir · 26/04/2014 08:50

Emiliana is just too long (5 syllables!)
Beatrice is pretty, as is Annabel (drop the double l - e)

UriGeller · 26/04/2014 08:51

There's an Icelandic singer called Emiliana Torrini so its not made up. Unless it was made up by her parents.

MairzyDoats · 26/04/2014 09:13

That's who I was talking about.

Montsti · 26/04/2014 09:20

St. Emiliana was an aunt of St. Gregory the Great..apparently... so Emiliana Torrini's parents didn't make it up ;)

I dislike Beatrice and hate the others. I like Emily.

Nestabee · 26/04/2014 09:26

How about Ariana?

WhereHas1999DissappearedToo · 26/04/2014 09:49

I love the name Annabelle. I really dislike Beatrice and Emiliana

drLu · 26/04/2014 13:14

I love Beatrice but that's what we plan to call our second dd. beautiful, classic name - not in the top 100 (yet!) and love the Shakespearean Beatrice who was a strong woman. I know on here it's popular but I've been on the mum circuit for 6 years now and never met or heard of another.

Montsti · 26/04/2014 13:51

Yes I agree that Beatrice does seem fairly popular on here, but I don't know any where I am (abroad). I only know 1 person in the UK who has a Beatrix nn. Trixie which is one of the reasons that I'm not going for Beatrix over Beatrice. My friend is happy for me to use Beatrice and nn. would be Bea whereas her dd is always Trixie.

Ok so I was convinced that we would go with Beatrice and I have just asked DH if that is our final decision and he has now said (having said it was fine) that he HATES the name Beatrice...he did say that about William though when we discussed that name for previous kids and now he says he would have gone with it if DD2 had been DS2 so he could change his mind...

He is happy with any of the following:

Josephine - I dislike

Emily - I like but I know quite a few

Annabel - again I like but don't love particularly Anna and my niece is Bella so can't really use Belle as a nn.

Jemima - I like but doesn't it have negative connotations?

Alice - I like but have never loved. Could grow on me, I suppose

Alexandra - I like but don't like the nns, Alex, Lexi or Sandy at all...

I really don't want to compromise as I love DS (Oliver) and DD1's (Charlotte) names! I suppose I could learn to love Alice, Emily or Annabel...

Help!

Annabel or Beatrice

Other one sounds made up.

RyvitaSesame · 27/04/2014 10:25

I think annabel is plainer than the similar but more popular isabelle. It sounds simpler not frillier.

Juliet s nice in same style op.

I can see why beatrice not to everybody's taste. My friends baby was going to be a beatrice but then they anniunced Hazel. I felt glad altho not my business as hazel easuer to say than beatricre. Do u like either of those op?

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 27/04/2014 11:14

How about Alexa, then no NN?

Jemima doesn't have any negative connotations for me. Gemma?

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 27/04/2014 11:17

I wouldn't go for Emily if your niece is Emilia either.

Amy
Hannah
Sophie
Joanna

Mrsindecision · 27/04/2014 12:07

Yes, Jemima has strong negative racial connotations in North America.

I think Annabel goes very nicely with your other dc's names, as too does Emily. How about (sorry for any repeats):
Lucy
Phoebe
Emma
Anna
Catherine

Montsti · 27/04/2014 18:33

Thanks for the suggestions. Not keen on Alexa, I'm afraid. I am starting to warm to Annabel and agree that it works well with my other children's names. I prefer a name that can be shortened so Lucy, Emma, Anna etc.., although pretty are too short! I like Catherine nn. Kitty but feel it is too similar to Charlotte (starts and ends with same letter and both have 9 letters). Not keen on Hazel or Juliet and I can't use Isabelle.

We live in South Africa and the racial connotations with Jemima bother me even though it would mostly be Americans who would think this..

My nieces are Amelia and Isabella. Amelia is known exclusively as Millie so Emily probably wouldn't be so much of a problem but as I said I know quite a few close to us so it feels a bit used..Isabella is known as Bella but sometimes by her full name too.

Annabel now top of the list...for now! Alice still a possibility but maybe too short a name...

How about Kathryn?

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 27/04/2014 19:11

Or Caitlin? Katrina/Catriona?

You could get away with kitty as a NN for any of those (do you have an Olly and a Lottie thus far?)

Annabel NN Annie?

Awks · 27/04/2014 19:11

I have an Emily (21) and an Annabel (13). Annabel isnt that happy with her name, she'd like to be something more street, I think Grin . I love both names though

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 27/04/2014 19:12

Alicia/Alyssa NN Ali?

Philippa NN Pippa?

Awks · 27/04/2014 19:14

with my Annabel, her NN is Annie (us) and Bel (sister)

RyvitaSesame · 27/04/2014 19:33

Awks nice combo! I like when siblings names go. Lotscof people on here think that's unnecessary but i like it and i think my children's names go

Montsti · 27/04/2014 19:44

Not keen on Kathryn, Catriona, Alicia (prefer Alice), Philippa or Katrina.

Annie is a sweet nn. for Annabel. Yes they are Ollie and Lottie but for now mostly go by their full names.

Ollie, Lottie and Annie sound nice!
