Which name do you prefer - Duncan or Alasdair?

I love both

PS don't let anyone tell you that spelling of Alasdair is wrong, it is correct and turns if from a boring Alistair to a gorgeous Alas-dair

ThingsThatShine · 22/04/2014 22:51

Alasdair

wanttoseethebollickle · 22/04/2014 22:52

Definitely Alasdair, Duncan feels quite "old" imo.

Bunbaker · 22/04/2014 22:58

If you are in England you may get people spelling Alasdair with a t.

I like both names though.

Theonlyoneiknow · 22/04/2014 22:59

Love both. However I'm not keen on the NN Ali which is inevitable with Alisdair so Duncan for me.

MsHighwater · 22/04/2014 23:00

My vote for Alasdair (that spelling - Scots Gaelic equivalent of Alexander) as it's the name of someone near and dear to me.

MyBootsAreMuddy · 22/04/2014 23:03

Alasdair. It's what dtd would have been called if she had been a boy.

Nunyabiz · 22/04/2014 23:08

Definitely Alastair. Really don't like the name Duncan.

Nunyabiz · 22/04/2014 23:09

Oops Alasdair

Alisvolatpropiis · 22/04/2014 23:12

Alasdair.

The only Duncan I know is a tosser so that may have influenced my opinion Blush

bingoheads · 22/04/2014 23:19

Duncan

Blondieminx · 22/04/2014 23:20

I prefer Duncan, of the 2.

bouquetofpencils · 22/04/2014 23:21

I prefer Duncan. Good strong solid name.

Havanacat · 22/04/2014 23:22

Duncan.

Lucked · 22/04/2014 23:28

Alasdair - love it.

DramaAlpaca · 23/04/2014 00:28

Alasdair.

Nowitscleanugobshite · 23/04/2014 00:29

Alisdair. Duncan donuts???

Blueberrybaby · 23/04/2014 02:52

Alasdair, although I prefer it with a T. I disagree that all Alastairs are nn'd Ali. I've known 3 and none have been shortened. Ok so it's not a massive straw poll, but just saying!

Poughle · 23/04/2014 03:01

Prefer Alasdair but Duncan's lovely too.

ElkTheory · 23/04/2014 03:21

I like them both. Very nice names.

Theonlyoneiknow · 23/04/2014 08:07

Maybe it's a regional thing, I know 4 blokes who have the nn Ali from Alistair/Alasdair

Bowlersarm · 23/04/2014 08:16

Alasdair

Bunbaker · 23/04/2014 08:18

I went to school with an Alastair. He got called Algy.

YoHoHoandabottleofWine · 23/04/2014 08:52

The Alasdair I know is called Ally by his mates/ work, but he still is and always will be Alasdair in the family, too beautiful a name to shorten IMO. It was a lovely name for a baby, toddler, little boy, teenager, grown man. In England and he does have to live with people mis-spelling it but that's not a big deal to him.

ShadowFall · 23/04/2014 08:55

I like both.
