Clara or Mabel?

Siblings are Elsa and Arthur.

Quite like that Mabel doesn't end in 'a' as the others do (or sound as if they do), but it's a bit Marmitey, isn't it? Or too trendy .... We are not trendy...

Merran? Merle?

Hilda. I love Hilda.

Greta.

Flowerface · 10/04/2014 12:46

My Mum LOVES Hilda but DH thought - and then wished - that she was joking, so it's safe to say that he would exercise his veto rights there!

I did think about Greta before and have slightly gone off it, though not sure why. Gretel? Too Hansel and...?

Sleepy678 · 10/04/2014 13:09

I like Mabel ! Also Nell, Martha, lottie & betsy. These names might go ?

Flowerface · 10/04/2014 13:10

ABWACADABWA, ha!

Clarabel is one of Thomas's carriages. Maybelle just seems like an elaborate Mabel.

Hm. I might have gone too far down the old lady road if Euphemia and Doris seem like the logical next step! Smile

Maude is lovely, also Maeve is quite popular here in Ireland.

squoosh · 10/04/2014 13:20

Frances
Betty
Evelyn
Nancy
Lucille
Vivian
Sylvia
Audrey
Lillian
Violet
Honor
Jean
Polly

But please, no more Mabel/Mavis/Phyllis/Hilda scares.

Flowerface · 10/04/2014 13:22

Some good ones, squoosh, thanks. Some sadly impossible due to surname/friends...

gertiegusset · 10/04/2014 13:24

Who the fuck said Doris???

That was our female equivalent of a Wally, another one with a cross over pinnie and enormous boobs.
And Hilda.
There is a reason these names became extinct! Grin

gertiegusset · 10/04/2014 13:25

What about Brenda or Barbara? Wink

Flowerface · 10/04/2014 13:30

... I am clearly giving off some weird vibes... Brenda!! Smile

Elsa is such a beautiful name. You don't want to create sisterly resentment.

soontobeslendergirl · 10/04/2014 13:40

Ha ha - I didn't suggest that they would be good, I just listed names that were in my Mums generation :)

Megrim · 10/04/2014 13:44

Constance
Meredith
Matilda
Naomi
Audrey
Celia
Sylvie
Imogen

Clarabumps · 10/04/2014 13:45

I like Clara (obviously) and Mabel. Both are lovely! Clara is slightly less traditional. I have a Martha. Which I LOVE!

mrsbug · 10/04/2014 13:45

Prefer Clara to mabel but if you want to avoid three names ending with an a sound how about

miriam
mary
merryn

JanePurdy · 10/04/2014 13:46

Go back to Greta!
