As my suggestion of the name Hades didn't go down well I figured I would post the rest of my list. I hope think that the rest of the names I like are a little less controversial. Judge away :)

My favourites:
Knox
Diggory
Neville
Axel

Other half's favourites:
Gannon
Brody
Brennon
Nathan
Simon

*We both like all the names but we both have our favourites.

Quite a terrible list, imo.

Brodie the only half decent one, and Simon.

Nathan is a horrible name. I can't believe so many people like it.

PrimalLass · 08/04/2014 18:13

But you think Simon is OK???

Just shows how we are all different.

GimmeDaBoobehz · 08/04/2014 18:19

My first opinions/reactions -

My favourites:
Knox - Fort Knox, also I think it's the name of a medication to get you to sleep, not too sure of the spelling though.
Diggory - Cedrick Diggory, Harry Potter. I don't MIND it too much, but it just doesn't sound like an actual name. Cederick is nice, though.
Neville - It's a bit old many re Chamberlain and also reminds me of Harry Potter, but the best of the bunch.
Axel - Axl Rose is the first thing that comes to my mind.

Other half's favourites:
Gannon - I just think of Gammon, sorry! Is it an actual name? I don't say that lightly either, I'm pretty liberal with names.
Brody - I don't mind this name.
Brennon - It sounds like a surname.
Nathan - Reminds me of a bloke I knew from East London who was a womaniser. Not a terrible name, but does remind me of a seedy kind of bloke.
Simon - Reminds me of a man in his 40s/50s not a baby but he'll grow up eventually, obviously. :)

Interesting names and not necessarily horrible, I just want you to be aware of connotations people may have.

Good luck naming your baby.

MrsBungle · 08/04/2014 18:22

Erm. Erm. Erm. Nathan. Simon and Brodie maybe. The others are beyond horrendous.

ToffeeJungle · 08/04/2014 18:30

Nathan is a great name, love it!
Simon is good too.
Brody and Axel are ok.... at a push.
The rest, no.

Alisvolatpropiis · 08/04/2014 18:39

The only one I like is Nathan.

Megrim · 08/04/2014 18:43

Gannon is Irish or Gaelic I think - I know one but he's a PITA.

Brodie is a good name, but a bit surname like - depends if your surname is like a first name (eg James) as that would get confusing.

All are better than Hades though Hmm

How about Dickon (rather than Diggory, which I would associate with a dog)?

PerhapsNot · 08/04/2014 18:47

Knox. Like the slebs kid Confused. No, I don't like it
Diggory. Awful name, sorry
Neville. Not great, sounds silly
Axel. Ok
Gannon. Nope Not sure how it's pronounced either. Is it Gan yon?
Brody. Ok
Brennon. Ok
Nathan. Really nice
Simon. Really nice

RufusTheReindeer · 08/04/2014 18:48

I like Axel and Brodie

Just wanted to fair!

RufusTheReindeer · 08/04/2014 18:49

To be fair!!!!! FFS!

bakingtins · 08/04/2014 18:50

Nathan, Simon and Brodie are ok.
The rest are an improvement on Hades.

TheGrassIsSinging · 08/04/2014 18:56

Hmmm. Your names arent to my taste.

I quite like Nathan from your husband's list, although prefer Nathaniel.

Knox, Diggory and Gannon are vile.

vitaminC · 08/04/2014 18:57

What bakingtins said!

Brody is OK. I know someone with baby Brody (or Brodie, not sure).

If you like American-sounding names, how about:
Curtis
Spencer
Oren
Wyatt
Cody

CPtart · 08/04/2014 19:11

Nathan and Simon are ok.
The others are shocking. Sorry.

VinoTime · 08/04/2014 19:20

Oh no. No to all of them. Please don't. Please.

I'm sorry, I know names are hugely important, personal things to choose and people's negative opinions on names that you love is awful, but you have to seriously consider the fact that this is a life choice you are making for somebody else. Giving a child a ridiculous, really 'out there' name is borderline bloody cruel lol. Your child will have to grow up with this name for the rest of their life.

Lots of folks don't want something as Top 10 popular as Harry or Oliver or Jack. But Axel, Gannon and Diggory? Come on, give the kid a fighting chance! Wink

From your list, I'd say Nathan or Simon at a big push. They at least sound like real names.

Whatsyourpoint · 08/04/2014 19:33

Knox - Love this. Knox was in the punk band The Vibrators.
Diggory - No way, reminds me of Dirk Diggler.
Neville - Horrible, please no.
Axel - Ok.
Gannon - Surname and unpleasant.
Brody - Ok.
Brennon - No.
Nathan - Meh.
Simon - Very dated 70's name.

Iwasagnome · 08/04/2014 19:39

Simon is the only possible one and I don't like that much
Sorry to be blunt

Lizzylou · 08/04/2014 19:42

Hades? Shock
Thank fuck that was vetoed!
Nathan and Simon I sippose, though struggling to see how you came up with those names as well as the others.

MissUumellmahaye · 08/04/2014 19:51

Knox - like it a lot
Diggory - don't like this one, pompous red faced buffoon
Neville - not attractive no matter at what age
Axel - love it but without Scandinavian roots I think it would be weird

Gannon - too much like gammon
Brody - I like it
Brennon - too much like Brendan
Nathan - OK, rather boring
Simon - I like it

May I offer you Lev, Dashiell and Toby?

Timetoask · 08/04/2014 19:59

Simon is awful! I find it really odd that you like such a boring name after the long list of "out of this world names".
I would go with Nathan

yesnoyesnoyesno · 08/04/2014 20:11

Carmichael
Fox
Enderby
Crawford
Fletcher

Megrim · 08/04/2014 21:44

Surnames for first names? No, no, no. Just wrong.

MummyBeerest · 08/04/2014 22:01

I actually really like Diggory, Neville, and Axel. I know a few little Axels...pretty popular in Quebec actually.

I think Simon is nice.

Good luck!

JustALittleConfused · 09/04/2014 06:25

I know I asked your opinion but I feel like a lot of you have been rather horrible about my name choices. There are children named these names and its not like I'm naming him Gaylord. Safe to say I wont be coming back here.

Gannon is an old Irish name meaning 'fair-skinned'. For anyone who was wondering.

OP posts:
deemented · 09/04/2014 06:45

just please don't be too put off by the folks who seem to think giving an opinion gives them free reign to be rude. Sadly you'll always get this when you ask folk what they think.

If I'm totally honest, some of your names would not be my choice - others obviously would - but that's the whole point. Whats right for you and your child is entirely different to the next person. Go with the name you love.
