Marcella or Stella?

That's it really. We have one boy's name which we are set on, but undecided on girl's name. Have two other DDs. Both Marcella and Stella work well with our other daughters' names.

Stella

I love Marcella, Marcy's adorable as well. Stella is a very pretty name but it makes me think of the beer, and it's definitely used more than Marcella.

bookcave · 04/04/2014 22:30

Marcella

PandaFeet · 04/04/2014 22:33

I know a very beautiful and successful Marcella. Much prefer it to Stella.

DessieLou · 04/04/2014 22:56

I prefer Marcella. Or Estella. Lovely names. Smile

Beamur · 04/04/2014 22:57

Both are great - my first reaction was Stella, but actually Marcella is fab too.
That's not so helpful it is...

stuckindamiddle · 04/04/2014 23:01

I like Marcy but not Stella (makes me think of the lager or that annoying tv show) and I'm not keen on Marcella either sorry.

squoosh · 04/04/2014 23:12

Stella.

Marcella is a nun's name.

mathanxiety · 05/04/2014 04:20

Marcella is definitely a nun's name. So Stella gets my vote.

Marcella and Majella are names I would put in the same category as Assumpta and Concepta.

aGirlDownUnder1 · 05/04/2014 04:25

Stella

wigglesrock · 05/04/2014 07:23

Stella is beautiful, I'm with squoosh Marcella is either a nun or the farmers sister who never got married. Seriously I know 3 Marcellas of this elk Smile . I lump Marcella in with Assumpta, Dymphna etc - not a name I'd give a child but that could just be a regional thing.

wigglesrock · 05/04/2014 07:24

Sorry I completely missed mathanxiety post Blush - so what they said!

Eastpoint · 05/04/2014 07:33

Stella

ChickenMe · 05/04/2014 10:30

Prefer Estelle, then Marcella. In parts of Spain (Catalunya) it's Estel which I prefer. Stella is quite hard.

UriGeller · 05/04/2014 10:34

Marcella over Stella any day. I think its a strong name.Would it be MarSella or MarCHella? I've heard both.

Marcy and CeCe are super cool nns. Its hard to get a nice nn out of Stella.

UriGeller · 05/04/2014 10:36

Wiggles I think its a regional/religious (catholic?) thing.

I've never even met a nun, let alone known the first name of one!

Artandco · 05/04/2014 10:38

Estella/ estelle

Anjou · 05/04/2014 11:53

Stella is beautiful. Estella is nice too. Not keen on Marcella (had no idea it had such religious connotations in some parts either). Also, really don't like Marcy as a nn. It's a bit Stacey/Casey/Lacey.

WifeOfGru · 05/04/2014 13:19

No I had no idea either about the religious connotations in some regions. I assume these posters are in or from Ireland?
Would pronounce it marsella.
Worried that 'Stella' can sound a little harsh, and with 'Estella' that she would have to correct people all the time who assumed they had heard the name 'Stella'.
Still undecided. We are not in Ireland but DH Irish and our other daughters have Irish Gaelic names, but we are not terribly keen on any of the other Irish Gaelic names.

My vote is for Marcella. I know one and she is lovely.

mathanxiety · 06/04/2014 05:28

If you turned up in Ireland and called yourself MarCHella you would get some quare looks Smile.

AuditAngel · 06/04/2014 05:34

I prefer Marcell, but I don't think people would be confused by Estella.

mathanxiety · 06/04/2014 06:41

Estelle is nice?

I like Marceline.
