ELCS today.
Having a baby girl. Need a short easy to spell name but want something unusual and a strong with a mythical or literary link.
Shortlist consists of (after much much discussion):
Hero
Isis
People being very sniffy about both choice but past caring frankly.
Which name do I go with?

Congratulations! I was going to say Hero but now I've said Isis out loud several times I think I like that slightly more now! I like them both. Helpful aren't I? Anyway good luck! Thanks

Congratulations! Both are lovely - I've heard of an Isis in the not swanky at all area I lived in. It has the edge IMO.

And hurrah for a non-Amelia/Isabelle/Ruby*

*all lovely names but enough is enough.

I would go for Isis. It's lovely.
I like Hero too but I think many people would expect Hero to be a boy.

Halcyon is my top choice and fits your requirements too.
Hope today went well!

Isis! Could nickname her Issy, how cute Smile

Congratulations and I hope all went well.

Hero is splendid; I like it. But its reception depends on where you live. Reactions at school could be fine, could be horrible.

Isis: the myth is fantastic: the power of love to bring immortality. Am not that keen on the sound, but it's nicer than 'Izzy', IMHO. (Absolutely no offence intended to anyone who uses that name. Just a matter of personal opinion.)

I must say that I do like Nevertell's suggestion of Halcyon. As I'm sure you know, the myth is about how Halcyons = kingfishers bring peace and
calm seas and good summer weather.
And there's a wonderful, joyful song, 'Halcyon Days'. Am sue that posters who know more about music will be able to say who composed it.

Isis. I'd have loved Isis for DD.

Isis definitely. Hero sounds like a boys name and a lot to live up to!

I know an Isis. She is startlingly intelligent and incredibly friendly. A perfect 'role model' for the name.

When I was pregnant I really liked the name Lilith, as she was a bit of a kick-ass lady, but in the end, decided DD didn't suit the name.

My list also had the following:
Ilana (Hebrew - means 'tree')
Inara (Arabic - means 'ray of light')
Seren (Welsh - means 'star')
Shanti (Sanskrit - means 'Peace/tranquility) and
Zahra (Arabic - means 'Brilliant/bright)

I love Hero & think it is a great name, unfortunately most people seem to think it's a boy's name. Isis is lovely though :)

You must have a baby now! I prefer Isis. Hero sounds a bit 'sleb'ish for me.

Isis for me too. Never liked Hero for a girl despite the Shakespeare "validation". Congratulations OP.

Other suggestions (not that you asked Grin)

Hebe
Ruth
Tess
Scout
Isolde
