ELCS today.
Having a baby girl. Need a short easy to spell name but want something unusual and a strong with a mythical or literary link.
Shortlist consists of (after much much discussion):
Hero
Isis
People being very sniffy about both choice but past caring frankly.
Which name do I go with?

Isis is fab, hero is horrible. Hera is nice though if you want similar and sticks with the goddess theme.

Oriunda · 01/04/2014 08:35

Isis is lovely

zirca · 01/04/2014 08:37

Isis

ImASecretTwigletNibbler · 01/04/2014 08:39

Hero is in for years of teasing (and sounds like a boy's name to me) but Isis is lovely. Congratulations!

fideline · 01/04/2014 08:40

Isis is a beautiful name.

fideline · 01/04/2014 08:42

I was at school with a girl called Hero and loved it until that annoying sleb tv presenter used it.

How about Dido or Clio?

LittleMissDisorganized · 01/04/2014 08:42

Hera perhaps? Happy Birth-day, hope all goes safely.

Delphiniumsblue · 01/04/2014 08:43

You can't be sure that they have the personality to fit Hero, it could be a nightmare for a shy child.

Bowlersarm · 01/04/2014 08:44

Isis. Very pretty name.

Mrswellyboot · 01/04/2014 08:45

No no no to hero

Isis is stunning though

ASmidgeofMidge · 01/04/2014 08:47

Isis. Definiteiy. Lyra did spring to mind, as a last-minute alternative!

ShinyTurd · 01/04/2014 09:04

Serious question, are you likely to be shouting Hero or 'Ero. Really annoys be when people call their son's Harry but it seems to change into 'Arry. Nickname perhaps??

Sorry, not helpful, bitch perhaps. Neither name would be my choice but Isis is slightly better. Good luck with the birth.

DiscoBiscuits · 01/04/2014 09:05

Hero.
I don't drop me aitches.

I love Hero. It's fabulous.

Don't like Isis. It's a bit meh.

Juno is gorgeous too.

CarolineKnappShappey · 01/04/2014 09:09

Even though you get the references to myth and Shakespeare, people will think you named her after the kind if a Hero that we're all holding out for.

Isis is better as people less educated than yourselves won't get confused by it Wink

Andcake · 01/04/2014 09:13

Like both but would go for Isis as Hero is the name of that awful Myleene Klass' daughter.
Good luck with the elc

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 01/04/2014 09:13

Like both
Prefer Hera because of how other people will react

How about Hebe?

ThreeBecameFour · 01/04/2014 09:16

Isis

kerala · 01/04/2014 09:18

Hero is cringeworthy sorry but it is. Poor child. Isis much better.

PreciousPeach · 01/04/2014 09:20

Love love Hero....hiw about Juno?

magentasurprise · 01/04/2014 10:12

Hero would be incredibly hard to pull off for most children so a bit mean to call a child this in my opinion.

Isis is definitely better, although not a personal favourite.

Lancelottie · 01/04/2014 10:19

For currently unusual, try Diana or Helen.

I know a nice Athena (and an Athene, perhaps less easy to spell).

lottiegarbanzo · 01/04/2014 10:20

Isis.

bassingtonffrench · 01/04/2014 10:30

isis

hero is hard to live up to
